Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

need your help too:

So i had IPL laser treatment and all went well. All the thicker hairs are gone, except for one or two which i can pluck. But im still left with a lot of fine fluff, that the salon said can't be picked up by the laser. i can't wax or thread it, as i breakout.
Any other suggestions?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Well the clinic you linked is in UK. You should be able to find others in your area (or you may have to travel a bit) with a YAG laser.

Lightsheer Diode is okay and can be used on light and darker skintones but it requires the technician to be very skilled in using it properly to get good results. So you are generally better off with a good clinic with a YAG. If you pm me your location, I will try to find a few places for you to try a consultation with.

Btw… what area are you thinking of having treated?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Out of curiosity, when was your last treatment and how many did you have in total?

Yup, there is no IPL or LASER that can remove fine or lighter coloured hair. The way these methods work is by using the melanin in the hair, and in finer or lighter hairs, there is just not enough pigment.

If you want the remaining hair gone permanently, the only option is electrolysis. But depending on your location this may not be possible. Add to this that it takes a far more skilled electrologist with good vision equipment to remove the finer hair, and it’s even less likely.

Paheli has talked about facial hair removal cream some threads and she does this herself. Providing your skin can tolerate it, it is an option. Always do test patches etc. The action is similar to shaving; you are just breaking off the part of the hair above the surface of the skin. But shaving cuts the hair to have a blunt tip, so as it continues to grow, the end will feel sharper. Since hair removal cream, chemically destroys the hair, the breakage is less sharp.

If you can’t use hair removal cream, you could trim them instead of shaving. If the hairs are fine and fluffy, a blunt end because they have been cut shouldn’t be noticeable anyway. I would bleach them to make them blonde and then trim with a facial hair trimmer. Again, try it out somewhere less noticeable and see how you like it before moving on to a larger area.

[IPL is not Laser, let’s not get the two confused]

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

last treatment was 3 months ago.. and even then the technician said i didn't have enough thick dark hairs left to continue.
the hair is on the side of my face, and giving me that wolverine look. My hair grows back really fast, eg if i clean it off with hair removing cream, it'll be stubbly the next morning.

Oh well.. guess i'll just have to live with it. Just adds to my painduness and depletes my confidence

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I would try to wait 8 weeks if you can. Your clinic might not like it, so you will have to see if they don't mind/care.

You will see the best shedding where the hair is thickest as those follicles had a higher chance of being affected. You might not getting shedding where the hairs are finer because those hairs won't have absorbed enough energy.

Shedding just means that the hairs have been forced to fall out of the follicles. So just like when you wax your thread but in those cases, you pull them out immediately.

So shedding and your areas being clear for a little while does not mean much at this stage - you don't know whether the follicles have just emptied or if they have been permanently killed. You need to have a series of treatments and then wait to see the actual results.

Only after the shedding has occurred will hairs start to emerge from the follicles that did not have hairs in them at the time of treatment - these are different follicles and different hairs from the ones you are experiencing shedding from.

About 3 weeks after shedding, you should see these hairs coming through. This is why I think 6 weeks is a little early because the next lot of hairs should have only just started emerging. The more hair you allow to come through, the more you can treat during your second session.

The best way is just to monitor what is going on and book an appointment when you think a lot of hair has come through.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

What are the risks of having laser treatment and then waxing straight after?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

But why would you do this? It defeats the purpose of LHR. You need to wait for the hair to shed from the follicles. It's better if you leave them as they will shed faster, leaving you with hair free skin for some weeks. You can trim them if they annoy you but waxing will just interfere with the process.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Omg!!!! I have the exact same issues as you. I bought this little trimmer which is made for women. I can't shave or use cream even cuz my skin will break out as well. The people at the laser place told me before hand that the fuzz will not go away so it's not a surprise. But it's still annoying. I am going to try and bleach it now.

I had full body laser done and have seen amazing results. :) all those interested in laser should deff do research and see if their hair is thick enough for the laser to be effective.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

This thread was incredibly informative, thank you stoppit! Would you have any recommendations for electrologists that know their stuff in the Greater Toronto Area?

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

I got some 20 sessions of NdYAG LASER for my thick facial hair. Used OCPs for the 4 years I got my LASER and ended up having a lot lighter side burns initially but the hair rebounded and now my chin has some thick hair that i need to wax monthly. Plus not to mention the gall stones from OCP usage.
Bad experience for me but now after studying all this, I know one should first get a hormonal assay done, check for Polycystic ovaries. Control that and then go for LASER.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

how many treatments does it usually take for thicker hair like those underarm ones to go away?i'v just had one treatment done, happy already. How long should i wait till my next treatment?nd-yag laser.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Wait about 8 weeks before the first and second treatment and then make it a bit longer each time, usually about 12 weeks between the final treatments. If the settings used are good, after 6 treatments you should get as much of a reduction as possible with Laser (it can't be 100%). You need to wait 6-12 months after stopping treatment before you can see how much hair was permanently destroyed.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Thankyou stoppit:) you're always of much help!
I got my 2nd session done today, almost 7 weeks after the 1st treatment!

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

So that's really about 6.5 weeks... you've probably only had about 2-3 weeks of growth come in. If you had waited another 2 weeks, more hair would emerged. Try to wait longer to maximise the amount of hairs that can be targeted.

The salons tell you that you need to come in 'as soon as hairs appear' but theory and evidence suggests that established anagen hairs respond better than early anagen hairs as they are thicker and can therefore absorb more energy.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

ah yes,i was told the same even this time..'come in as soon as the hair appears'!

i'll go in after 2months this time for sure!

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

hiya stoppit, can you give me some electrolysis recommendations for the nyc area? do you recommend electrolysis generally for the face or would it be ok for the underarm area as well? gracias

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

Electrolysis is appropriate for both.

Laser will only give you an underarm reduction anyways. I still had about 30% underarm hair remaining which Laser was not getting rid of so I had to finish up with electrolysis. My sister went straight for electrolysis and will be 100% done in what is known as three ‘clearances’, she’s had two so far. But not everyone works using this clearance method.

Anyway, for underarms I’d recommend Fino Gior’s clinic (Fino is extremely well known in the electrolysis world), even if you have to travel a bit.
The Cost of Electrolysis - New York Electrolysis
6-11 hours sounds perfect for properly performed electrolysis.

For the face, I’d defo have a test patch there but I don’t know much about what equipment and methods they use so you may want to have a few more facial consults. I’ll pm you.

Re: Laser Hair Removal - What to know

so the start rate is 450? I think i'll just opt for the upper lip option for now
