Larger Pakistani Role in Mumbai Attacks

Is the news from DAWN true? Pakistani authorities have filed a case against Ajmal Amir Kasab and 12 others in connection with the terror strikes in Mumbai.

At least 5 of the 10 gunmen who attacked targets in Mumbai, India, nearly three months ago were of Pakistani origin, according to a government report that has been leaked to local television networks.

It would be the first acknowledgment by Pakistan that more than one of its own citizens had participated in the assault. The country has confirmed that the lone surviving gunman, in Indian custody, is a Pakistani.

But officials here have rejected India’s assertions that the assault was conceived and planned inside Pakistan. According to the television networks, the government report says that investigators have concluded that the attacks were planned in a European country and Dubai over the Internet, and that the planners used Bangladesh for logistical support.
It was unclear from the leaks how the investigators had come to their conclusions.

The preliminary findings of the investigation had been expected to be made public this week. But on Monday the government issued a statement saying investigators needed more evidence from India to proceed with the investigation.

The request for more information provoked an angry reaction on Tuesday from India, which said it had already shared exhaustive evidence of Pakistani complicity. India’s junior foreign minister, Anand Sharma, called the Pakistani request a stalling tactic. “What is required of Pakistan is that it should not delay, deflect or confuse, but act,” Mr. Sharma said, according to Agence France-Presse.

The Pakistani government did not specify what additional information investigators wanted from India. But Dawn, Pakistan’s most prestigious newspaper, reported Tuesday that Pakistani officials would seek a DNA report on Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving gunman involved in the attacks, and the other nine, who were killed by the Indian security forces.

Pakistan is also seeking information about the weapons used by the gunmen as well as details of the cellphone calls made by them, Dawn said.
In addition, Pakistan will push for access to the Indians who have been arrested in connection with the attacks, the newspaper said.

Tension between the countries has intensified since the November attacks in Mumbai, formerly Bombay, which killed more than 160 people. Indian and American officials have accused Lashkar-e-Taiba, an outlawed militant group that has vowed to free the disputed Kashmir region from Indian control, of being responsible for the attacks.

Pakistan has promised to cooperate fully in the investigation of the attacks. Under immense international diplomatic pressure, Pakistan put Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the leader of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the charity affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba, under house arrest and detained at least 124 people in a nationwide crackdown. Offices and schools associated with the charity have been closed.

Re: Larger Pakistani Role in Mumbai Attacks

Hahahah what a stupid headline, i thought Zardari and Gilani personally planned Mumbai attacks inside Pakistan parliament or something.

Re: Larger Pakistani Role in Mumbai Attacks

LOL

Pakistan finally admits that Indian dossier was “good”.
After a spate of flip-flops, Pakistan on Thursday finally admitted that “some part of the conspiracy” behind the Mumbai terror attacks was planned in the country and six persons have been arrested in this connection.

Pakistan acknowledged for the first time in public on Thursday that parts of the murderous Mumbai terror attacks were planned on its soil and said several suspects were being held.

Previously, the Pakistani authorities have said that the only surviving gunman from the 10 who attacked the Indian city last November was of Pakistani origin. Earlier this week, a government report leaked to television networks in Pakistan said at least five of the 10 attackers — who killed 163 people in a rampage through luxury hotels, a Jewish center and other targets — were of Pakistani origin.

Indian officials have insisted that the attacks were supported by what Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called “some official agencies in Pakistan.”
Pakistani officials deny that, but on Thursday, Rehman Malik, the senior security official in the Interior Ministry, told reporters that several suspects were being held in Pakistan. “Some part of the conspiracy has taken place in Pakistan,” he said. His remarks were broadcast later on local television stations.

He said police had begun a formal case against suspects whom he did not identify by name or list by number.
India has accused the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba of responsibility for the attacks, supported by Pakistani intelligence agencies. But Mr. Malik did not refer to any alleged involvement of Pakistani security agencies.
The leaked report earlier this week said the attacks were planned in a European country and Dubai over the Internet, using Bangladesh for logistical support. Pakistan also called for more information from India — a demand that provoked an angry reaction. “What is required of Pakistan is that it should not delay, deflect or confuse, but act,” India’s junior foreign minister, Anand Sharma, said.

But Mr. Malik said on Thursday that Pakistan had “gone the extra miles” to satisfy Indian concerns. Pakistan’s message to India was: “We are with you and we have proved we are with you,” he said.

Salman Masood reported from Islamabad, Pakistan, and Alan Cowell from Paris.

Might have been posted before.. don’t know

I just saw it right now.. :frowning:

** Pakistan has admitted for the first time that the November attacks on India’s financial hub Mumbai, in which 179 people died, were partly planned in Pakistan.
Pakistan has registered a criminal case against six men held in custody and two others still at large, Rehman Malik, the country’s interior ministry chief, said on Thursday.
The move formally paves the way for a police investigation into the attack.
“Some part of the conspiracy has taken place in Pakistan and … according to the available information, most of [the conspirators] are in our custody,” Malik said in a news conference in Islamabad.
Malik said a “first information report” had been lodged against the eight suspects on charges of "abetting, conspiracy and facilitation’’ of a terrorist act.

In depth

New Delhi has blamed the attacks on the banned Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Islamabad is under pressure from India and major powers to crack down on the Pakistani-based group. New Delhi said all 10 armed men involved in the attack were Pakistanis and that their handlers in Pakistan had kept up communication by phone during the three-day assault on hotels, a railway station and a Jewish community centre.

The information that led to the arrests came from India.
Malik said that police had traced a boat engine used by the attackers to Pakistan and infiltrated two hideouts of the suspected perpetrators in the country.

Re: Pakistan admits Mumbai attack link

Rehman Malik seem to be very happy

I am amazed that you can LOL seeing that your country has been proved a liar and has had to eat humble pie. So much for patriotism :)

I am also amazed that you are happy that real killers of your brother and sisters will never be caught.

India Pressured, USA pressured, UK pressured. Holbrook arived and all of sudden all fingers pointed to Lashker-e-tahiba or Pak land and you believed them all of sudden.

Just because Malik idiot said it doesnt mean that they got the real killers. It is also possible real killers are still between your indian land and they never get caught. I hope we can hear the truth and only truth. We may never find out who are the killers of those innocent people. And you are happy about it just because Pakistan is been blamed for it.

I don't believe in no politician. Yesterday's liar is today's most honest for you because it serves your purpose.

Yes, most of the real killers will never be caught because they died. The one that is still alive was caught and is a Pakistani with LeT links.

People like you were in denial when India pointed a finger at Pak post 26/11 and are still in denial 2 1/2 months later when Pak has accepted all of India's charges & proof.

Real killers were all killed (but for Qasab) in Mumbai itself !!!!! But the people who have organsied and planned this .... they will also be dealt with ... this is just the beggining, these "terrorists" have been exposed this time and they have no where to hide !!!!!!

LOL.. Humble pie?
Whats to be humbled about?
How old are you, 10?
And where is the lie? The Pak govt will go along with whatever the evidence shows, we unlike you Indians dont jump to conclusions.

There are definently many involved in this who will never be caught. Certainly there are also Indians involved who helped these people on same level.
The Indian govt would never admit this because it would make them look stupider then they actually are.

what do you mean country proven as a liar man? dont you need some time to investigate to find out who the culprits are? or do you just take any report from any country and arrest your citizen w/o any proof and punish them? would Indian govt not take it's time to investigate on it on it's own merrits of any report of accusation of criminal activity from Pakistan? why must you stoop to these cheap shot, it only makes you sound like a bigot, which I hope you are not.

Pakistan is bringing ppl who did wrong to your country to justice, that's a postive step and I personally hope anyone involved in this act should be be punished accordingly so it becomes an example. At this point I also hope that your govt cooperates with Pak govt (evidence sharing etc) so these a-holes and other planners are apprehended, as well.

Standing in one corner and making negative comments about any postive action Pakistan takes wont help your case in any way, man. But what the heck, you're on a Pakistani forum board website posting any and every kind of negativity about Pakistan, you're a different kind of a case anyway. Do something constructive with your time.

Dont mind the Indians... They look for whatever little crumbs they can to prop up their oversized egos... :D

The thing is if Pakistan was seriously working on the '*INFORMATION' *provided by India then what was the need for frequent leaks coming in the media denying everything all along....

How old are you Punjabee in USA??? What humble pie ???
Didn't India take 1.5 months to hand over evidence to Pakistan ( even though it was blamed on Pak from day 1 itself)???
Pakistan had to investigate to make sure who was involved, we did exactly that and arrested most of the people involved.

This is not the first time proof has been provided to Pakistan, however Pakistan has always denied any Pakistani involvement. Dont kid your self about it, the only reason your govt is acting now is because of the US 'danda' :p

Hurt, are we ?? Well, you can always choose to believe Hamid Gul or that "facial feature" expert :p

"Inki shakalein Hinduon wali hain".....LOL :)

just wait and see what is going to happen next as key is Ajmal Kasab..

lone terrorist arrested out of 10-20 and only one alive out of a suicide mission and in mysterious circumstances...

now there is another theory floating it can be that it was planned or linked to pakistan proven alright now the question pakistani agencies would ask who was pulling the strings.

Ajmal kasab: it has been reported under the carpet may be he was a double agent can of of raw or some other foreign agency....
i have seen atleast three versions of him (pictures)...

next question would be who were the other terrorists which india has yet to prove their identities...

whatever you see investigation is, it is at premature... and for pakistani agencies most important question is who had the stringsif that was actually planned from pakistan and you will see excuse starting coming out of india for no further co-operation....

we live in a world these days where not all is black and white..

why we were objecting initially what you call patriotism was sort self deception on your side that it was done by pakistanis only and slowly you would know who were their facilitators and companions in crime from INDIA.

also remember samjhota express : initially politicians on your side were barking on pakistan and after a year it turned out to be indian army men.
