I have large pores on cheek area close to my nose. Is this normal? I mean I can see pores with naked eye in a regular mirror. What is causing these large pores? It’s been recently that I started noticing them. What is the treatment for them? I know I can use a primer under makeup but what about without makeup? Please do tell me any tried and tested methods. I also have acne scars. What’s the best way to clear those up? I have oily and very sensitive skin. I used to bleach my upper lip. Evn though I have stopped bleaching it for so many years now but my upper lip still looks pale and a different shade than the rest of my face. Please advise as I am getting married this year and I do want healthy, glowing, clear skin on my wedding. Thanks
Re: Large pores
I have large pores as well but I know as I have aged my pores have gotten more prominent.
I had very oily skin which has now changed and some parts are still oily and some are not.
I read that oil cleansing method helps in reducing the size of the pores as it cleans the pores. Read up on OCM.
I started OCM but I am lazy and I could not continue for more than may be a week or two. I do it sometimes but its not a regular routine for me. So I am not sure if thats why I did not see any results. When I do it, the skin does feel very soft and nice but pores seem the same size.
There are threads here that talk about acne scars. I cannot recall any right now but search this forum and you should see a couple of threads.
Re: Large pores
Try the oil cleansing method, there's a thread here you can read about it there and also google it. And use a natural toner, like rose water, tomato juice, yogurt etc twice a day. Also rub an ice cube all over your face each time after washing your face. Keep your skin moisturized with a non-oily moisturizer. Infact coconut oil and olive oil work wonders for the skin. Dab a littl on your palms, rub them together, and massage on your face before going to sleep. Olive oil is a little bit denser and takes time to absorb but it gives a really healthy glow I apply it before sleeping. Coconut oil is very light and doesnt make your skin feel greasy, so you can put it on during the day too. Eat healthy and avoid fried and fatty foods.
And btw, everyone can see some amount of pores with naked eye if they look too up-close. Stand at arm's length from the mirror in good lighting, and then if you can still see pores it means you're having enlarged pores, otherwise you're just over worrying :)
Re: Large pores
So even though I have oily acne prone skin, I should still use the oil cleansing method and apply oil to my face? Won't that make things worse for me?
Re: Large pores
It may seem to worsen the problem in the beginning but then slowly your skin and glands will start to clear up inshaAllah. I have combination skin and my oili-ness lasted only a few days but if your skin is too oily it maky take a few weeks, it depends how far is your wedding, and how heavily oily your skin is?
Re: Large pores
If your wedding is less than a month later, then you shouldn't be trying a new beauty regime. But then you haven't done anything for the pores before so you need to do something new. Try the OCM for a few days, lets say for a week, along-with the other things I told you, if you notice any improvements go with it. If not, then skip it for now and just get a good toner for the pores
Re: Large pores
A good exfoliator and face scrub help with reducing the size of your pores
Re: Large pores
Exfoliation
Peels
Pore shrinking masks
Peels are the most effective from what I have experienced but you don't have time to try a series of peels
Re: Large pores
Clay masks. 'icing' the affected area's and Clinique Pore Minimizing range.
Re: Large pores
I'm not exactly sure if this is true, but I heard washing with cold water instead of warm water helps reduce the appearance of pores.

Its true but that's effective only if you don't use any type of makeup. If you use makeup and then wash face with cold water only, any makeup residue will fill your pore and close so your skin might break out.

So when removing makeup I should wash my face with warm water instead? I usually don't even use a makeup remover. I simple use my cleanser to wash off the makeup. I am not sure if that's the right thing to do or not
