Lara signs up for new Indian league/ICL approaching Pakistan players including Inzi

Brian Lara has become the first big-name signing for the Indian Cricket League, which announced today that it has also contracted former Indian allrounder Madan Lal to coach its Delhi team and Balwinder Singh Sandhu as director of academies.
Lara, who retired from international cricket after the World Cup earlier this year, said he looked forward to playing with promising youngsters and to captaining one of the teams. “You can’t keep me too far from cricket and hence I return to the game in this exciting new avatar”, Lara said in a statement issued by the Essel Group, promoters of the ICL.
Rajesh Chauhan and Pranob Roy, former players who had also served as selectors, were roped in as talent scouts for the league. They joined Kapil Dev, Kiran More and Sandeep Patil on the ICL roster.
The Board for Control of Cricket in India had not given its official sanction to the ICL, and had, in a controversial decision, barred current India players and former players on its payroll from associating with it.
Lara’s joining the ICL had first been reported in May and at the time the names of Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, had also been linked with the league.
Lal, who was a part of India’s World Cup-winning team captained by Kapil Dev, said his role as a coach included inculcating character in the team and creating a “brand of cricket which possesses killer instinct”.
In his reaction, Sandhu pointed out that he had been the head coach at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy and the coach of the under-19 team.

Re: Lara signs up for new Indian league

This will do nothing for ICL. Indians dont go to cricket ground to watch cricket. They go there to see their so called Demi-gods and Indian national team.

‘They have signed the contracts’

Warne, McGrath have joined breakaway league - Kapil

Kapil Dev has told the Australian that Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath have agreed to join the breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL).

“They have signed contracts so that to me means that they have taken the deal,” Kapil, the the chairman of the ICL’s executive board, said, adding that the organisation was also negotiating with some young Australian cricketers.
He said the new league gave an opportunity for players to exploit the fact that India generated the most of the revenue in world cricket. He termed the ICL “the most exciting thing,” to happen to world cricket in recent times.

The ICL is a Twenty20 series proposed to be held around October in India featuring six teams comprising four international players and two Indian stars, with the rest made up of younger players.

lets see who the Pakistani stars are :)

Re: Lara signs up for new Indian league

So players who are currently under contract with their country's board aren't allowed to play for the league? The only way any domestic league can be successful is if the international fixture and the domestic fixture works together, like in soccer. The reason why county cricket in England is poor is because the international matches are always prying away the best talent.

Indian Cricket League approaches Inzamam

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain, is the latest international star to have been approached by the Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Inzamam, who announced his retirement from one-day cricket after Pakistan’s failed World Cup campaign, confirmed that ICL officials had contacted him. “They have been in touch with me and I am considering their offer,” Inzamam told Cricinfo. “If the terms are right, I will play.”

The parallel league has stirred the cricket world, evoking visions of a Kerry Packer-style circuit. The players it has targeted so far, however, are those who have retired from international cricket in one form or another. Brian Lara has already signed on, while Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Stephen Fleming have also expressed an interest.

The PCB announced recently that centrally contracted players would be unable to join the league but kept the door open for ex-internationals or players not contracted.

Inzamam said he believed the league would ultimately benefit Indian cricket itself. “What harm is there if it means that more people will watch cricket, come to the grounds and watch stars in action? It furthers the profile of cricket.”

Inzamam did acknowledge that ultimately the choice will come down to financial benefits to the player. "Players who are out of favour, or not international cricketers, or who are nearing the end of their careers will rightly see this as an opportunity to benefit financially and I don’t see anything wrong with that.

“For younger players too, there are rewards. Playing alongside players such as Lara or McGrath can only be a good thing for your development as a young player.”

Inzamam’s own international future is currently uncertain. Though he has left one-day cricket, he wants to carry on playing Test cricket “for as long as I feel I am performing.” Noises coming from the board in recent months suggest Inzamam may not be a part of Pakistan’s next Test squad against South Africa but the selectors have publicly said he will be called to the probables camp for the series in September and October.

Inzamam is currently Pakistan’s second-highest run-scorer in Tests, just 19 runs behind Javed Miandad and he plans to fight for his place. **“I want to pass 10,000 Test runs and I believe I am capable of doing that, given the opportunity.” **

He has limited opportunities to prove his form and fitness to selectors, however. Pakistan’s domestic season is not due to start till December. Reports linked him to some county sides earlier in the season but those plans have fallen through. Until the season starts, Inzamam will play club cricket for Lahore Gymkhana.

I still remember his picture from last world cup when he was coming back from his last innings---bilkul fakeeron ke tarhan ro raha tha...haad ho gai...he should go back to Multan and sit under a tree in company Baagh.

Re: Indian Cricket League approaches Inzamam

… **Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf said any player joining the league would be ruled out of future internationals.

“Our position on the breakaway Indian league is clear and firm. Since it (league) is not approved by the ICC any player joining it will not be considered for future selection,” Ashraf told AFP without mentioning Inzamam’s name. “No current player will be allowed to sign the league and all cricket boards of the world have this same stance.”** …

Indian Cricket Leage (ICL) approaches top 6 Pakistan players

I am surprised noone has mentioned this yet, but Geo was reporting a couple of days ago that ICL has approached the top Pakistan players to play in ICL for 3 years with contracts ranging from 2 crore to 8 crore. The approached players are: Shoaib Malik, Yousaf, Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Muhammad Asif, Abdur Razzaq, Shahid Afridi.

The contracts are worth a lot of money, but I doubt any player will accept the offer since PCB has said anyone who playsfor ICL can't play for PCB again. The players these days earn a lot of money from PCB central contracts, match fees, sponsorships, endorsements, hence the ICL offer may not be as lucrative as it would've been a few years ago.

Eight Pakistan players sign central contracts](http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/current/story/305441.html)

Eight Pakistan players, including Shoaib Akhtar, signed six-month central contracts offered by the PCB on Friday. The remaining 12 are expected to sign them over the next few days.

The signings quashed speculation that had lingered over the last few days in Pakistan that several leading players, including the likes of Shahid Afridi and Shoaib, might join the Indian Cricket League (ICL).

A clause in the new contracts clearly states that permission must be sought from the board when opting to play in a professional league; the PCB has already said that any contracted player turning out for the ICL will not be considered for Pakistan. Seven current players were reported to have been approached by the league.

Shoaib, after signing the contract, told AFP that he had turned down an offer from ICL as representing Pakistan was more important than money. "I was offered a decent amount from the Indian league officials. I have decided that my country is far more important for me and I am important for my team so I have decided not to take the offer," Shoaib said.

"Pakistan has to play in the Twenty20, then against South Africa, then against India and Australia, so I am more focused for the Pakistan assignments than playing any series which is not for my country."

Shoaib was the first player to sign the contract, the board was keen to point out. In the past, he has refused to do so. **“Shoaib was the first to sign the contract. **Seven others including Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul and Salman Butt also signed them,” Ahsan Malik, director communications and marketing, PCB, told Cricinfo.

Mohammad Asif and Afridi have also turned down offers. **“It was good and tempting but I see a strong future for myself in the Pakistan team,” Afridi told PTI. “I don’t want to let my fans down.” **

The board held a meeting with the players on Friday where it explained in detail several aspects of the contracts and gave players the chance to raise any queries or objections. “We told the players to look over the contracts over the next three or four days but a few signed them immediately. The others will look over it in the next three to four days,” said Malik.

Talat Ali, Pakistan team’s manager, told PTI that the players were very happy with the terms in the contracts offered to them. “The ones who didn’t sign are those who are based in Karachi and couldn’t attend the meeting. But they are expected to sign them today,” Talat said. “There is extra money for winning a series, a match, scoring a hundred, taking four catches and wickets.”

Twenty players have been offered contracts in all, which will last till the end of this year. From January onwards, the players will receive year-long contracts.

Re: Indian Cricket League approaches Inzamam

for inzi i think he should concentrate on making his test come back rather than making money and help others ..... he should be loyal to the star which he worn till 07 world cup .... we want to see him making runs in test arena n helping the youngsters n teaching them his style of play ...soft with agression..... unique ! ....only resembled with vivan richards....... so inzi should now only think about his test career .......n coaching youngsters and promise pcb to give one more inzi style batsman in next 2 or 3 years .... thats what we want from inzi and other old sungs.........
