Exactly where are you located? Are you willing to buy from abroad. If you are in Pak then I would suggest two things. Either buy an "Inbox" (it is a local brand) cauz they are cheap and reliable or buy a Sony Vaio (expensive but high class). Shopping on e-bay is not safe, especially if you are not in the states. I would recommend you buy it face to face, rather than on the internet.
go for Dell Inspiron 5100...its a P4 2.66, 256 MB DDR, 40GB HDD, DVD-CDRW, 15.1" screen...and it fits ur budget too...here in bahrain it is 1550 $, but u can get it cheaper from US or canada....
I personally like Sony and Dell but i need something light 3.5-5.5 LB which I can carry around without having to feel like im carrying a baby :D and 15" screen doesnt come that light or does it?

I'm using the exact same machine, with the same specifications.I got it for 2087(Canadian) which roughly translates to $1475
Ahmedjee I won’t recommend 5100i to anyone…these machines are continuous pain in the neck..I had Inspiron 5100e and it never worked smoothly..1st its battery failed (dell had to recall all 5100 battery because of some tech fault)..2nd w/in 2 months of time the fringes around the display cracked 5times! ..to get them replaced I wasted hours on phone to get customer service….In the end I got so pissed that I emailed Michael Dell…and then I got New 8100 Ispiron in place of that lousy 5100 e (happy ending)
I think Alienware Area51 notebook is really cool..but it is darn expensive
