After three years of slugging a ten pounder across america, I have decided its about time to spend some money and get a new laptop especially as I hope to traveling a bit more then before.
Any suggestions for something not extremely expensive and fairly light. I have been thinking about getting one of those sony viaos with a docking port and 17" flat screen so that at home i will have the full size screen but the computer will be light enough to travel around with.
Currently I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 with 900 Celeron, 10GB and 512 MB RAM. So almost anything would be an upgrade. Also any ideas if I can sell this Dell laptop?
I am sure you can sell this old computer on eBay or something.
This month's edition of PC World compares three kinds of Notebooks
Desktop Replacement (high on features and high on weight)
Value Notebooks (good features and reasonably priced)
Ultra light portables (decent features, and low weight)
I presently carry a 3.9 lbs Centrino Dell with 1.4 P-M, 40 GB and 512 MB RAM. My recomenndation will be to check out Dell Latitude X300, if you really want a light weight.
IBM has pretty bland designs but very good notebooks. So does Toshiba.
With ultra portable, you give up some functionalities (like I don't travel with my DVD/CD-RW, as its a separate USB attachment) and the screen is only 12". But if weight is of paramount importance, that its a pretty good deal.
