Laptop vs Tablet

Which is a better option if you have very basic use of it? I dont know much about them so please advice. Dont have a big budget but it should be good enough. Which tablet is better?
I would prefer something that I can connect to my tv..Argh:sid:

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

Laptops and tablets are still a different ball game and one cannot replace the other. To me, tablet is still a secondary computing device, which means that after you have a laptop or desktop at home and you want to buy one more, only then go for a tablet

Laptop vs Tablet

Which is better for basic use like browsing, youtube, movies etc:confused: can u connect a tablet to your tv:sid:?

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

oh u just want to pass time :faizy:!

Laptop vs Tablet

Which im already doing with my iphone:phati:

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

for all that, tablet would do just fine.

I can only talk about ipad which you can connect to your TV in two ways but both would cost you money

  1. Airplay everything using Apple TV 2 ($99)
  2. Use Ipad to TV, HDMI adapter ($40)

Laptop vs Tablet

HDMI adapter sounds good..
Is Ipad a better option than any of the other tablets(android)?

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

iPad is user friendly and hassle free but has certain limitations which don't seem to bother most users. What i tell people about that iPad is that it is a glorified iPhone - except it can't make calls like a cell phone. If you're already using an iPhone the iPad can do pretty much all that, except on a bigger screen. For multimedia use around the house, iPad is good for:

Playing mp3's
Watching movies on Youtube/Netflix/Movies that you download in the ipad
Web browsing - I don't say basic web browsing because Chrome is now out for iPad and it's a pretty advanced browser.
Email
Video conferencing (eg Skype)
Take pictures / make videos
Lots and lots of games
Lots of useful utilities / applications

A Laptop does everything above but can do a lot more, mostly work oriented. Like run heavy programs, such as MS Office, Adobe Photoshop etc etc. If your aim is for anything in the list above, get an iPad. For above tasks in mind, the iPad is better than a laptop because:

It is extremely lightweight - the lightest laptops are very tedious to carry around with their power adapters and cables and everything.
Does not heat up - laptops are known to fry male sperm when used as a 'lap' top.
Can easily be used to watch movies / do other work when traveling - not very possible with a laptop

More points later.

Iv seen your threads..you are such a pro at this..please help:blush: can u give me a review for nexus7..ipad or nexus7:sid:?

Haha laptops do heat up alot..Iv seen my husband complaining:blush:
Great review thankuuu:)
Can I download movies on ipad? Like a laptop can download pretty much everything but does ipad have restrictions?

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

Our Nexus 7 should be here in a few days. I’ve used the iPad extensively and it’s very cool. All the things you want to do, you can. There’s tons of Apps you can have on there and it really is very user friendly.

I bought a MacBook Air a few months ago and since then I haven’t touched the iPads. Of course we’re talking $1000 more, but honestly, unless you’re planning to “work” I say stick to an iPad for your daily browsing and entertainment.

The Samsung Tablets are great too I hear but don’t have any personal experience with them.

The Nexus 7 is cheap. I’ll tell you my experience in a few days.

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

What websites can you use to stream tv shows and movies on the iPad? The ones I generally use, like gorillavid or allmyvideos aren't working because of the flash restriction (I assume)... Thank you in advance...

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

^ iPhone / iPad doesn't support flash . They support MP4 format . All the famous websites always keep multiple copies of the videos i.e. FLV and MP4 . I am sure sites like Netflix, Hulu and Youtube must be supported on iOs .

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

Regarding OPs question . . . I think Tablet is just a bigger version of your smart phone . It won't be too smart to expect anything more from it . For example if you like to do a lot of web browsing or watch videos online then tablet is good , but if you would like to do extensive word processing or may be software development then stick to a laptop .

Re: Laptop vs Tablet

Yeah, but with the exception of YouTube, you have to subscribe to the other websites... I'm looking for a free one. YouTube doesn't have all the shows I watch.
