I want to connect my laptop to my tv (standard tv not hdtv). I want to use it for playing games on a bigger screen, but Im wondering if it would be worth it.
Has anyone does this? Just to be clear, I dont want tv signal going to laptop but laptop’s output into the tv. The resolution is 800x600, does that cut it for FPS games (given that you have a bigger screen).
I have a standard VGA out on my laptop and standard AV inputs on my tv. So I’d need to buy a convertor box right?
If you have S-Video on your laptop then all you need is the S vidoe cable which costs around $10 from the computer shop.
It connects at one end into the svideo of your laptop and the other one goes into the TVs video socket.
I dont know the technical name of that socket but its the yellow one.
You also need some sort of software like NVidia to be able to configure the laptop and tv displays.
and you are all sweet.
With S-Video you can actually view anything you are doing on the laptop on the tv.
Play games, watch dvds or any vidoes or even us the tv screen as a bigger laptop screen.
even if he doesnt have s video, i think there are convertors available under 20 bucks to fix that
as for sound, i woudlnt worry bout that, just plug your speakers into the headphone of your laptop that is if you have your tv plugged into surround sound speakers.
Most laptops have S-Video/Composite Video connection. You will need the special cable which came with the laptop to send composite video to TV. S-Video gives better video quality if your TV supports an S-Video input.
Even though TVs have a bigger screen size than a monitor, the resolution they support is quiet poor. A normal NTSC TV will have a maximum resolution of 720X480 pixels. The best picture that you will get out of your laptop will be when you will run your laptop in 640X480 mode. Running it in any mode higher than this will actually deteriorate your picture quality.
