I’m in the market for a laptop/notebook
Atleast of 80GB/516mb tft 15.4" + cd romRW/dvdRW+ Mob tech with atleast 802.11b upto 22mbps - ( will consider excellent used condition/off lease as well)
Concerns : Battery life/endurane, Price $$$, Tech support/warranty
Is it cheaper in Canada or elsewhere? Who can help ?
Stick with Dell or ThinkPad, if price-performance and reliability/support are your main concerns. Lenovo ThinkPad now generally is a bit overpriced compared to Dell, but I don't know about Canada.
I have heard enough horror stories about HP/Compaq (though I personally like them, and their prices are fairly competitive), Sony and Fujitsu tend to be over-priced (you can, if you search carefully, find good deals) and Toshiba is definitely over-priced but is an absolutely smashing piece of hardware (only on the high end, though)
HP these days are producing some nice machines. Check out their prices and compare with similar config Toshiba or IBM(Lenovo).
In the middle east Hp/IBM/Toshiba all have good support. But IBM and Toshiba gives you international warranty which I think others dont give.
HP Price *1.5 = Toshiba/IBM Price (same config)
Stay away from 2nd hand laptops, if you can't go for newer cutting edge models then lower your standard to a basic minimum brand new unit. You won't regret it…
I am using a compaq presario X1020 bought over a year ago from bestbuy (USA). Its working greatly, has everything you mentioned above. CDRW (not DVD-RW) though. 802.11g with 80GB HDD.

Finally bought Toshiba-Satellite M10-R10 with freebie UG memory to 1 gig. 100GB HD ++. It amazes me as I use it more often. The ping & scan radar for w/conectivity and Toshiba's onboard software is simply awesome and enhances your computing experience. :D
