Re: Laptop Help…again

Take a look at this one.
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

If you wish to make an "investment", buy a MacBook Pro. I would go with 17" but it depends on your budget. As for Sony, I would never buy it. Why? I bought a Sony laptop a few months back and it has the worst speakers one can imagine. I sold the crappy thing. Though battery life on Sony laptops are good but MacBook can match it with its newer models. To be honest, all laptop makers are trying to play catch up with Apple so go with a MacBook.

Go for Sony Vaio SR, i am using it right now one of the best business-entertainment 13inch laptop i got hands on. Classy battery life, clocking to 4 hours minimum. LCD can't be beaten by any other company. Very light, no plastic use.

Re: Laptop Help.....again

try the toshiba satellite U400 or u405 series...

Re: Laptop Help.....again

mini laptops: asus eeepc , and acer's aspire one series, any of these with "hard drive" and windows..

NOT: solid state drive (SSD) with linux..

Re: Laptop Help…again

Re: Laptop Help…again

I bought sony VG-FW21E last month and I am in LOVE with it :jano:

Re: Laptop Help.....again

ok, i know a lot of girls (and guys) will beat me up for it, but don't go with a sony if you're trying to save some money. you can get the same configuration, for much less money than a sony viao. if you want something that looks nice and sleek, then you can't go wrong with an HP/Compaq. Acer is pretty cheap compared to other brands. I have a compaq right now, bought it oh...2 years ago. Very nice looking, and great features. And it has awesome speakers. Much better than other brands that i've seen other people carry.

If you're looking for a good deal, best time to buy is either boxing day sales, or back to school sales. check your local best buy flyers for deals on laptops. ~ $800 CDN should get you a good laptop.

Macbook is not a good "investment" because Apple drop the price on new macbook and you loose the money on them the most.
New-ish macbooks can run windows as well , so its not like you have to get used to MAC OS (which is quite good btw). Also small thing - but you don't have a second mouse button in mac (although it is easy to do Right-Click).

Other than that Macbook are probably THE BEST laptops out there right now.

  • Dell are good because of their support but fragile laptops
  • IBM/Lenovo are good solid laptop that can take some beating, they have nice thin portable line too x300 etc
  • HP are decent as well, but their support is not the best
  • Sony are amazing laptops, but you pay for the brand name as well (meaning quite higly priced)

rest of them are mediocore.

Re: Laptop Help.....again

Try dell, never any problem with them here.

Re: Laptop Help.....again

Are you in Canada? i can try finding you some nice deals?

She is a student and Apple offers student discount which is way better then the $100 price drop. Hence, its a good "investment".

Re: Laptop Help.....again

^ It is not a $100 price drop. My brother bought Macbook Pro for over $2200 , right now its worth under $1000 (in less than a year). My friend has the new Macbook (13.3") - now new uni-body macbook is released, he is trying to sell it and having hard time selling it for $1000 (thats over $400 loss in couple of months).

I am not contradicting what you are saying , I was just saying the word "investment" is not accurate.

Peace

Yes i am in Canada...can you please...i'll be grateful - i don't want to go to future shop and stare at all the laptops like crazy and buy the one which the sales person tells me or the one that i find the prettiest looking :S (yes i am that dumb when it comes to buying a laptop) - i can buy a compaq one too i already have experience with dell and compaq, dell died all of a sudden and compaq is too heavy to be carried around...but i liked it while it lasted..

**
I just want a good laptop, i can force my dad to invest in a little bit if the price goes beyond my budget...but i want a laptop which i can carry when i walk for 15mins to the bus stop, then change one bus, go to the subway and then walk for 15 mins again from the subway to the collage..and come back without breaking my shoulders or the laptop..and also use it for some entertainment like watch dvds or download a movie..etc..you know..you know what i mean**...my laptops sleep with me on my bed as well..and when all of a sudden i wake up at night i just turn on the lappie and chat or watch a movie..so i just want a laptop which can do all that.

I like how apple laptops look...the pretty sa apple on the laptop :D but yea, i know when i bought a ipod for some price i dont remember and after a few months my sister bought the same one which was a bit modified (since it didn't require a cd to get the thing installed in the pc) and she got it for less price then i got mine. Apple stuff is good but this price shedding that to so quickly makes people think they have wasted their money by being so quick on buying whatever they wanted.
