Ok I know I have a lot of electronic problem 
but this is what happens when u spend 10 months in PK. Anywayz before I left to PK my laptop turned on but the screen was black…any idea of what might of happened…and what to do? As far as what ppl tell me is that the screen possibly burned out. And if that is the possible problem how do I save my info from my laptop to my computer? Thanks.

how old is the laptop? whats the make and model? have you tried to play with brightness settings?
shine a light directly at the screen..do u see a dark image? if yes, its the backlight..OR the inverter. backlight repairs are tougher..inverter is easy..and u can do it on your own..it'll cost u under 50 bucks.

all i know that its an HP and its been like little less than 2 yrs since my uncle bought me the computer. And I used my computer monitor with the laptop and it worked but it wouldn't go past the startup....

On laptops there's a setting to switch from laptop screen to external screen. On my Sony its Fn + F7 key combination. See if that fixes the issue.

there may very well be 2 issues here if the computer doesn't go past the startup.
were u able to see the display on the external monitor?
HP laptops have a problem with their invertors...so i'm pretty sure that your dark screen needs a new invertor.
The startup problem..could be anything...but is not related to your dark screen.

well i took it to best buy and they said u need to call hp…the screen doesn’t work for my laptop but with another monitor connected the laptop works fine. So the screen does have a problem. I will just have to replace it…

There is a good chance its just the cable (or inverter) of laptop screen. You may not have to replace the whole screen.
SCreen replacement is quite expensive, where as cable is relatively cheaper.

HP will charge u close to 700 for a new screen…a new invertor will cost u 20-30 bucks.
