I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 and since a couple of days a message has been appearing telling me to purchase a new battery.
I contacted Dell and was told a new battery will cost £96 which seems a bit much to me..does anyone know of any alternative & reliable places online where i can purchase a new battery?
Are you by any chance using Windows 7 or Windows Vista? If yes, these operating systems have a major flaw in them where the battery meter reports “Consider replacing your battery” even though the battery is perfectly healthy.
As long as the battery time is good i.e: over an hour, you may continue using the battery without replacing it with no issues, its not the battery’s fault instead its the operating systems and even if a new battery is installed there is a high possibility the error may remain even after replacing the battery with a new one.

I am using Windows 7 and i purchased my laptop last November, so it has been over a year now.
Is that how long a battery normally lasts?
Uhh…well I just ordered a new battery now, so when i receive that I’ll find out if it was an error or not.
A new laptop battery generally lasts 2 to 3 hours (Depending on usage) however gradually as the battery is used the battery time reduces as well down to as much as minutes but it takes years of constant usage for that condition to occur. An hour was just a general estimation, any battery that gives out more than an hour is considered good.
Do let us know how the new battery works out for you. Also do not forget to give it a full charge before starting to use it (Laptop turned off while charging) and once charged, drain it off completely. This helps calibrate the battery so that the battery meter in windows is as accurate as it can be.
if u bought it last year then it should have lasted longer…my laptop is about 4yrs old but still it gives me 2hrs of battery (prob coz i have been careful in using the battery)…i’ll say keep your new battery new and use ur old one at the moment and when old when goes completely out then use th new one. and use the new one with extra care and it will last longer like dont overcharge it, dont use ur laptop mainly on its adaptor (when the battery is full-disconnect ther charger and then put it back again when the batt is low)
