I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of those who couldn't care less about jihadi terrorism when they couldn't see it on their TV screens. This has been going on for years, but once this is over, people will forget and move on and the mullahs and taliban will remain in control in vast parts of Pakistan. This is 100% related to this operation. It is about the future of Pakistan and the mullahs will need to be defeated not only in Islamabad but also in Miranshah, Wana, Tank, Parachinar, Charsadda, Dir, Swat etc.
These are not road accidents I am reporting, these are suicide bombings and attacks on the army due to the lal masjid operation.
Well, yes, its obviously easier for people to relate to when it is shown on TV, thus it creates more discussion. This is why TV is the most popular medium of communication. So to point a supposed hypocrisy just because people are discussing this situation more than the one you cited is ridiculous. This is getting more attention because A) This is on TV B) It is inside the capital of the country C) It is more than just a terrorist attack and D) It has remained a top headline for over 5 days already. There is no hypocrisy here. I am, and I'm pretty sure others as well, are just as pissed about soldiers dying at the hands of these terrorists when it takes place near the Afghan border in the middle of nowhere as I am about soldiers dying inside the capital. There is no question about it. The main concern are the people who don't care at all and are actually supportive or apologetic towards these terrorists.

This is a costly operation with some many troops out on the field, use of gas for the vehicles, ammo spent, wear and tear on gear, food, accommodation etc.

but the rest, it seems like parents allowed their kids, or older pupils there decided to stay because either they did not disagree with what was going on, or wanted to mind their own business and study while others in the madrissa had this whole militancy going on.
I dont understand, and the question then is that if we have people who stayed there because they agreed with the mentality and are now willing or unwilling hostages..what kind of help they will need to be rehabilitated and get rid of this brainwashing
You know, my mother asked me the same question when we saw the interview of the mom who has 3 little girls inside the masjid.
I think part of the problem is that some of these parents live far away, like in NWFP, and they might not have had communication from these kids for some time. And I don't know if these people are tuned into GEO and newspapers, and if these things are even available in those areas. I can imagine, some of these families probably can't afford a TV or cable. And in NWFP, the radio channels might be censored and they're getting biased news from mullah radio.
Plus, the kharcha to come and get their kids - it probably took some days for these parents to start travelling out of their homes. The Lal Masjid siege is something everyone knows about, so maybe they heard from people nearby who do have TV's, whereas an incident like Lal Masjid guys abducting chinese girls who've done nothing wrong was probably mis-translated in those regions as "Lal Masjid, yet again, does work in Allah's name by eradicating another whore house in Islamabad that Musharraf attends regularly".
These village areas and townships are in rough areas, sometimes, and I don't think lifestyle there is anything like lifestyle in Urban areas of Pakistan.

You know what also annoys me? Musharraf said that anyone surrendering will be allowed to walk free.
But now the news is that they've locked up the males in a jailhouse, and parents can't see them.
I guess they're being detained just for questioning...I hope. But its disappointing to see the President lie to the public and to the hostages this way. I can understand the use of detainment, but then, that should have been made clear. Full amnesty, provided you answer some questions - then we'll let you go.
Does anyone know what happened to those detainees - I know the reporters were trying to get in to get the 411 but were told the "depity" didn't have time for them.
By the way, isn't it odd that the same maulvis who will injure you black and blue for mis-reciting an ayah of the Quran during Quran class, want this Qazi-a-hole treated so nicely and with such tenderness upon surrender?

Well, I think the "walk free" part was guaranteed to people who were not involved in terrorist activities in the past, based on the questioning atleast. And by walk free, I don't think Musharaff meant just letting them go home after surrendering. I'm sure he meant not filing any criminal charges against them.

MANSEHRA/ABBOTABAD, July 3: Angry protests were reported from different parts of the country in the aftermath of a clash between security forces and students of Lal Masjid seminaries in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Protesters blocked one highway, ransacked banks, damaged vehicles, burnt tyres and effigies on streets, forced traders to shut down shops and took out processions.
Police baton-charged and fired tear-gas shells at demonstrators at some places and several people were reportedly injured.
Clerics, madressah students and activists of political parties blocked the Karakoram Highway on Tuesday night at different places in Mansehra and Abbotabad districts.
Police used batons and fired tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters in Abbotabad after they had ransacked main branches of four banks.
Seven protesters suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Protesters also smashed billboards and wind-screens of several vehicles and set on fire effigies of President Gen Pervez Musharraf.
They were later addressed by Maulana Rafique-ur-Rehman Qamer, Maulana Waqarul Haq Usman, Maulana Faizul Bari and others.
Our Quetta Correspondent adds: Dozens of activists of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) took out a procession here on Tuesday against the attack on Lal Masjid.

It was incovenient for them to come out full force in support of ghazi after this initial ghunda gardee, but this shows what is in their heart, and ever since then they are doing it in a stealth mode, casting doubts, conspiracy theories, while not bothering to really call a spade a spade i.e. their pal is holding ppl hostage.
I recommend that govt allow anyone to go in and negotiate with ghazi, at the condition that if they fail they get shot on the spot. These ppl are publicity hungry and just want to go and cause discord. If they think they can ask ghazi to surrender unconditionally then send them in.

Absolutely correct. The Mullahs were snug thinkign there will be no 'operation' and they can make themselves look good by condemning him, and if the government ever did get serious, they can always switch gears and talk about "piyaar" "mohabbat" (wonder where all that love goes when they are calling for the blood of other sects).
Some of them are clearly seeing this as a threat to their own bread and butter. Have you heard the latest from Mullah Sandwich? "Laal Masjid operation ki basis par baaqi madaaris ki talaashi ki ijaazat naheen dee jaye gee!" Allah he jaanay Sandwich kay Jamia Haqqania main kiya kiya hota ho ga.....
