The argument goes like this:
1) The leaders of this "movement" are well known to Ziaist gov functionaires and have been on gov pay in the past
2) The GOP claims to be holding back to avoid a bloodbath, something which was of little concern to them in the tribal areas or NWFP
3) The GOP has a heavy monitoring presence over and around Lal masjid, and yet they can leave and abduct people with impunity.
4) In all previous challenges to the so called writ of the state by opposition forces (whether political or violent), the GOP's response has usually been disproportionate and excessive (please see the killing of Akbar Bugti and the roughing up pf lawyers and the Chief Justice for more info ). However this time the response has been timid bordering on paralysis. The arguments for why go like this:
a) The GOP is no longer able to enforce the rule of law
b) It is unwilling to enforce the rule of law
c) it does not consider whats going on as a violation of the rule of law and in fact sees it as something which reinforces the impression to "secular forces" that there is only chaos if Mushy falls.

I understand what Lal masjid folks are doing.. I don't even approve what Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi's upto.. But this question is for our moderator- Mr. Flame for life..., Tell me why is Mushy is turning Islamabad to Qadianabad.. ??? I call my friends from time to time who live in Islamabad and they tell me Mushy is hell bent on turning Islamabad to Qadianabad.. Please comment about this since you live in Islamabad. My friends might be completely wrong on this.

quick fix: take em out, do the chitrol and what not, show em force that will teach them.
good fix: hear both sides out, take the pot stirrers for both ends and swap them with reasonable folks. its never been a mystery that this approach is wrong but i'd say use of force is the worst way to solve this mentality. You are talking about more than 600 families, which sort of twitish govt can just gass em or what ever? in this mush is atleast reasonable so far. some better approach has to be used to reach these people get your point through to them. and please understand if it was one crazy banda it would be something, its an entire institute gone vagabond. they are already facing criticism from religious community in Pakistan and from overseas, a little bit of brain and good shove will get the message through. And bear in mind this all has rocketed out of control due to negligence in first place.

correct fix: Arrest the culprits for kidnapping and hostage taking. Prosecute them according to law. Enforce the court judgement. As long as the culprits can get away with their hostage taking and threats, they will keep on doing it. It does not matter how much they are watched. I don't agree with people advocating an indiscriminate raid, shooting and Chitrol etc.

correct fix: for the government to enable the police to uphold the law. ie close brothels and stop parralel governments

Wait till Ramadan comes around and these scum bags come out on the street to make sure no one is eating or enjoying themeslves in any way...
And if Vroom is right and the people generally support these people, then they deserve to live under Talibani style oppression.. May such people be stoned to death on Ptv on a regular basis for whatever the holy fathers deem unislamic.
By the way, since when is a acupuncture center considered a brothel? Do those bearded idiots even know what acupunture is? I suppose they must have heard it involved a needle pentrating a body, and they assumed this must be somthing sexual?!?!

your not allowed to eat infront of a fasting person (afaik). in most peoples cases it wouldnt be lalmasjid who would give you a clip around the ear pakpatriot it'd just be a member of the public. somewhere someplace this episode is waiting for those who eat/smoke/drink during ramzaan. i know your familly dont say nothing, neither do mine but the stance among the awam is clear.

you must appreciate the reasons behined the popularity. brothels and some of the more major failures of the government are being highlighted, brought to justice and dealt with.
talibani politics is limitted to afghanistan and will remain so. one unfortunate wartorn country's experience can not be re-enacted in pakistan because we have been more fortunate in our experiences and therefore taliban politics will never impose itself on pakistan.

massage/treatment parlours are a front for brothels the world over. if you ever see the word massage parlour it means brothel unless it advertises its not and specifically warns sex punters to stay away!

Not everyone can be expected to fast... If someone is eating or drinking, they should pardon themselves, not be beholden to religous tyrants lile the Lal Mosque A holes.

The govt is guilty of not being more proactive in dealing with ACTUAL brothels, but you cant allow vigilantes to go around acting on their own to impose "justice."

some amount of moral upkeeping reform is needed in pakistan. a strong police and a stable government
we are neither saudi nor are we afghanistan, the future is for us to decide. to agree on a stable vision and to implement it. a chance for pakistan to guide others.
the threat to a stable pakistan in the longterm is not lalmasjid but liberal extremists. who make progress and agreement on timeserved morals difficult. who shout hard everytime a law or philosophy favourable to islam is mentioned.
i offer my respect to the people who conclude brothels and other plain wrongs are to blame for the current lalmasjid campaign

Indeed. If they are genuinely popular, let them enjoy there Talibanization. I would withdraw any loyalty I have for Pakistan, which is an immense amount. I could not be pro such a radical regime.
