There are many stories of what happened here. What are the facts? What actually happened? Until this day every one has their own view but surely there must be some facts that people cant ignore?

The one thing I must say is that it was very badly handled and leashed one of the worst periods in Pakistani history - the random but regular attacks mainly across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. 5 years on this has calmed down considerably.

^^^ How would have handled it w/o handing Islamabad over to religious ninjas & burka mullahs? Remember govt tried all other methods, including asking Imam of Kaaba to mediate, & was left with no option but to establish writ of state by force. Personaly, I think govt was too soft. If it was up to me I'd would have handled it Chinese way with brutal force b/c that is the only thing these people understand.

The only thing the govt did wrong was not taking care of the issue sooner, instead letting it fester. If the had arrested all involved students early on, we might not have seen a prolonged stand off.

We can blame Musharaff for some of his other blunders in has last couple of years but media should be blamed THE most for totally showing the wrong picture to people. I think Musharaff tried his best not to attack those thugs but he was left with no choice. The action should have been taken long ago but it was important to take on those idiots who put the lives of hundreds people at risk.

I believe it was very well handled by the govt at the time. The only problem was that those arrested were let off too easy and the women were let go. These were not just innocent women, they were terrorists just like the men, and they deserved to be behind bars for years to come.

So musharraf is gone and has been gone, CJ is there, zardari who claims no soft spot for Musharraf is there, New COAS as well. So is what ER know as official account true, or are the myriad of conspiracy theories by lal masjid gang sympathizes true? Facts and figures?

Now that we 've seen how the media/journalists are sellout to some parties/mafias it is easy to see why media showed the wrong picture.

Anyway, what are the facts around the whole Lal Masjid drama, a timeline of some sort would do.
