^ That's exactly the problem. We have this impression in our heads that if you're truly religious, you dress a certain way. We totally judge people by the way they dress. If its a girl without a hijab and a mod-haircut talking about Islam, she's gotta be Irshad Manji.

Second issue is that we as muslims have stopped questioning maulvis and we've stopped even paying attention to what they do. To those of you living in Pakistan, when was the last time you actively participated in your masjid (aside from doing your jumma namaz and leaving)?
Most moderate and educated muslims don't really visit the masjid aside from Jumma prayers, if that. Meanwhile, these places are being used as schools, as conference centers, etc. And no one has a clue as to who goes there, what they say, what they do, and what they teach.
I mean, I know some fairly religious people. This one relative of mine, he likes to talk to people. He'll start a conversation with a paanwala, he doesn't care - he just likes meeting people. Nice guy. He goes to some masjids in the area to meet the imams and the guys who hang out there to talk to them. The stories he told me were pretty horrendous. They were doing some pretty crazy stuff to kids. One of the Imam's sons was a trouble maker at school. He puts him in school, and the kid runs away and cuts class. The Imam has given up on the kid. And the kid is like 8 or something. Wanders around the city, dad has no clue what he's doing. My uncle took the liberty of putting the kid in a better school and paying for the tuition. Kid cut class again, and the Imam basically shrugged and said that he has no control over his kid.
And we've entrusted Islamic leadership in the hands of these people.

Red Masjid - plenty of women studying in or near its compounds - they raid a madam's house who had prostitutes. Now Red Masjid = Plenty of females studying in its compounds with a nearby Red Light Area. Am just not convinced by all this palav cos man dey aint behaving lyk women shud. cos dey sum serious identity issues - laffed myself silly wen i saw em wid ther AK's!!! Is this wat this maulvi & co. are teaching em. In Islam a woman aint to raise her voice yet dis idiot lot are going round lyk Arni S - summat outa his terminator movies "we will beeee baaak" (of course, wid a paki accent) lol. I rest my case, been on duty for the last 14 hour tryin earn a decent living. question? av yet to see a poor maulvi in the UK. cos soon as tey get here dey sorted oout wid a house, car, food, you name it yet the lyks of me cant afford a property. sigh! rest my case. now al shut up & sleep til i go back on my shift tomorw. await to see the reactions wen i wake up. nitey nite don't let bed bugs bite.:D

Without Shias such as Jinnah and Aga Khan, there would never be a Pakistan. Shias created Pakistan, they might as well destroy this useless country and save face.

I take offense to that. There were PLENTY of people involved who helped create Pakistan, and subsequently, continued to help it progress instead of turning around and looting it.
And they were definitely not ALL shia. People like you put me off. Its like, any contribution from any other group of people aside from yourself just doesn't count. I'm memon, and I'll have you know that there are LOTS of memon families that contributed heavily into the economy with their success, and gave lots of money to the government of Pakistan when it started out. I remember, there was one memon fellow who gave the Pakistan a blank check as a gift when we won our Azadi.
That's just some stories from my people. I'm sure all the other ethnicities and religions also contributed into the progress of Pakistan.

I agree with PCG, many other sects sacrificed a lot for Pak.
When Muhammed Ali Jinnah was a Shi'ah-Ismaili he drank alcohol and ate swine, then he converted to Islam and created Pak so he wasn't a Shi'ah-Ismaili all his life (after embracing Islam one is redeemed of sin). Even his funeral prayer was conducted by Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Usmani a graduate of the University of Deoband, which is a Muslim (not Shi'ah-Ismaili) institution.
PS. The 12er Shi'ahs do not consider the Ismailis to be Shi'ah and many don't even believe that the Agha Khan is a descendent of the Prophet PBUH through Ali/Fatimah PBUT.

Forget foreign agent - Maulana Abdul Aziz looks too silly to even be a parking ticket contractor/agent. It is good that he tried doing what he did and got exposed for being a coward who could only send others to die but tried sneaking away in a burkha when he had to face the music himself. And, he now blames his wife - which means that he is hiding once again behind a woman.
What a clown! The government of Pakistan has taken a brave step in getting this buffoon out of a holy place and into jail. Hopefully, they would put him in a lunatic asylum where he rightfully belongs. Islam is too great a eligion for buffoons like him to do any harm to.
