I have been told (not by a doctor) that dipping your feet in warm water with lahori namak is very relaxing and it takes all the pain away. I sent a friend of mine to the desi store to get some Lahori namak for me and he brought back kala namak rocks.
Also if any of you know of any desi nuskhas to relax aching feet. I have had multiple surgeries on both feet about 3 1/2 months ago and I still cannot walk. I am using crutches with my left foot but can only manage 40-50 steps before my foot swells up and start hurting like hell. Same happens with my right foot, I am asked to put 20% weight on it but the ankle is still very stiff after 2 weeks off the cast. The moment I put my right foot down it starts swelling up.
Seher, thanks. It is, alhamdolillah, a lot better compared to what I have been through. The worst was when they pulled out the pins from the bones. They were supposed to come out with single jerks but a few of them were stuck so the doctor had to give some very hard pulls before they came out. As I was trying to act macho I refused to take any anesthesia, I did not feel so macho afterwards.
The doctor had already told me about the pain and the swelling because of a condition where I have started losing my bone mass, for that I am taking osteoporosis medicines. It is just that I do not believe in pain killers. I stopped pain killers after a few hours of my surgeries and I do not intend to take any now.
BTW ppl another desi nuskha that I have been told is to massage my feet with Mustard oil and Lahori namak. Has anyone ever heard of this?
i really don't know exactly about lahori namak.........but i think its not kala namak..........and i always assumed lahori namak is not the finely ground one rather its the salt with larger n coarser crystals.........but still can't find logic behind my assumption
well .......what i DO know is warm water with salt is very good ......
in my childhood whenever we went outdoors ........on a trip or a little outing etc..........at night before going to bed ammi used to place a tub/bucket of really warm water with some salt in it.......then all children were first given a massage(on legs n feet) with mustard oi n then we all used to keep our feet in the bottom of that bucket n ammi would slowly pour this water on our knees to ankles for at least 10 to 15 minutes
afterwards we all would enjoy a nice sleep ........without any signs of fatigue etc in next morning
i'm sure this will help you ........n please do remember to cover your legs with some chaadar or blanket after this coz sudden temprature changes can give problem n uneed to keep your body cozy........!!!!
i am not sure what lahori namak is..i have seen kala namak though..
its so painful to even read about your condition..hope you recover soon
Here’s some remedies that i have personally seen working on people..
Use castor oil…for better penetration you can use a heating pad over applied oil. Another alternative is extra virgin olive oil..
Epsom salts are really good..take a bowl and fill it up with warm water..use 2 tbsp of epsom salts in it..infact any bath salts will do the job..
Another aromatherapy alternative: Soak your feet for 5 minutes in a shallow tub of hot water containing 6 drops of eucalyptus oil and 6 drops of rosemary oil.
Also you can get a 30min foot massage from a spa or a sport injury clinic..it also helps..
The following remedies i found them off net..so i am not sure about them..but you can try:
Rub lemon peel, onion or garlic over the feet.Bathe your tired feet in hot water containing birch leaves, pine needles or mustard powder. Use a handful of birch leaves or pine needles or a teaspoonful of mustard to a bowl of water as a foot soak.
-Use about two cups barley in ten cups of water. Slowly bring to a slow boil, once it gets to a soup like consistency take off heat, let cool. When at a comfortable temperature pour into large container and soak your feet for a half hour.
Long time back when I twisted my ankle my mother had me soak my feet in warm water with Lahori namak. If my memory serves me right, the rocks had a kind of reddish/ pinkish in texture. So when my friend brought me this kala namak I was confused. Thus the question.
Now I have another dilema. I asked my friend to get me some epsom salt as suggested by Qrius. He brought me 25 gram packets. When I read the packet it said Epson salt, just my luck. Now tell me is it the same salt? Its chemical name is magnesium sulphate. Is that what Epsom salt is? Anyway it is very soothing.
Irem bibi, massaging is out of question. The skin is still tender from the surgery scars. Then the pins came out only recently so that section hurts on touch.
