Lahori Fish

Does anyone have a recipe for lahori fish usually sold on stalls? I think its fried with besan coating…I had it during my last visit to pak about 8 years ago and have never been given that particular recipe…

Re: Lahori Fish

its not always with besan coating ,it may be simple fried as well.

Re: Lahori Fish

Have you tried using Shaan's Lahori Fish Masala? It has a recipe on the back. I heard it's pretty good. My mom adds in a little bit of the masala to marinate fish but she makes it in a different style. But I am sure if you were to follow the recipe on back, it would turn out pretty good.

Thanks but I’m not too fond of Shaan masala’s I prefer Laziza! Inshallah will try it out and let you know! I couldn’t find Laziza Lahori Fish Masala so, most probably will end up getting Shaan instead!

How did you get on Sara? Did you use Shaan Lahori Fish Masala?

Re: Lahori Fish

I just love the fresh water fish and how they make it in Lahore!!

Re: Lahori Fish

shaan lahori fish masala is really good......i make my own masala then add a few tsps of shaan masala.

Please share your recipe!

I made Lahori fried fish last night and it turned out really well. I used Tilapia fillet and made my own masala.
It very simple really... Juice of one lime, salt, black pepper, red chilli pepper, ground coriander and some chaat masala. Marinate fish pieces in this for few hours.
In the mean time make basan paste with salt, red chilli and coriander and a pinch of baking soda.
When you are ready to fry the fish coat fish pieces with basan one by one and drop in the oil. Do not coat fish too thickly and shake off excess basan from it.

No i used my own masalas.. i used hte recipe posted by Shumaisa in the "aaj kya khaya pakaya thread" with a few variations. I liked it alot but I think i made the besan too watery, so for some pieces the caoting was faling off but then the next batch was prper crispy.

I'll try it with tilapia next time, hubby hated the fish smell/taste this time around. this was the 1st time i used whiting fish..
