Lahore

inshallah going to azad kashmir and lahore pak in december 04’. i will be going to lahore for the very 1st time, plz leave in this thread information which will be vital for me, things like hotel booking, restaurants, places to visit etc

jazaks’

well i hope you like lahore and the rest :)

Hmm Hotels in Lahore:
In descending order of excellence:
1-Pearl Continental (The Mall aka Sharah-e-Quaid-e-Azam)
2-Avari Hotel (The Mall aka Sharah-e-Quaid-e-Azam)
3-Holiday Inn ( Off the Mall)
Above hotels are 5 and 4 Stars,Following are hotels of some repute:
4-Best Western(Shalimar Hotel) Liberty near Gaddafi Stadium
5-Ambassador Hotel(Davis Road)
6-Fletti's Hotel(Old Hotel,Near Wapda House Off the Mall,Hear there is a center where Buses depart for Dehli India via Wagah Border).
Lahore doesn't have good guest houses like that of Islamabad, but you would find many small motels to stay in.

Lahore Restaurants:
Gulberg is the hub of Restaurants in Lahore, you would find all good food chains there + that of the Chinese Restaurants. Two main places of Restaurants in Gulberg are Main Boulevard Gulberg & Ghalib road Gulberg...If you want more of Desi style food then Food Street in Gawal Mandi is the good choice...Similarly old lahore & Bhati Gate has many Fish & Desi food eat outs.

Places to Visit:
Every one has his/her own interests for the places..But many people who visit Lahore for the first time ,do go to:
Shahi Qila(Fort),Badshahi Mosque,Daata Darbaar,Minare Pakistan,Anarkali Bazaar,River Ravi,Lahore Museum,Lahore Zoo,Salimar Gardens,Wagah Border(With India),Lahore Gymkhana etc....

How can you forget Liberty

Yes Liberty is in Gulberg....letuzchat Liberty is the #1 Shopping area in Lahore...+ also some good eat outs....And yes also try Fortress area in Cantt...A good hang out,Play land for young kids & some good restaurants(specially Bundu Khan..mmmm :) )

how come i missed lahore gymkhana and the wagah border when i went their some 10 years back… :hoonh:

Lahore is ok. But if want to visit a real city go to Rawalpindi. If u are there in December u might find me somewhere near Dhok Khubbha.

Well , I have'nt been to Karachi since I was like 12 or something so I can't vouch 4 that, but you will really enjoy Lahore. The people are really freindly and the city is all about a good time. Lots of places to eat and chill and that, its a great place.

mfs555 dhok hafiz is probly somewhere nearby I would guess. Yeah its a cool place to visit for sure. :)

haye lahore :teary3:

I'm sooooo looking forward to go to Lahore again. Inshallah I will be there next week.

I will be in Lahore during Nov 14th and Nov 21st. Any lahorie guppies want to meet up, send me a pm.

another thing ppl, i don't want the taxi drivers to take me for a ride with their "fare increasing" tactics and being a first timer i'll fall into the trap, what would be the best way to go about this?

^ Rent a car...wouldn't be that costly...Although if you have any relatives in Lahore, having more then one car(even with one car),....They would go to extreme extents to have their car....But at the end... it never sounds healthy....
Regarding Taxis...yep they would trap you...100 Rs is nothing for a small trip of about 6-8 kms from Cantt/Defence to Gulberg/Liberty...Though Taxis are frequent in Lahore but would be a pain if you really want to travel in Lahore...My final predication is you would end up paying about a 1000-1500 Rs (about 18-25 $$) for a one day ride ,if you chose Taxis as source of transporatation...

lahore had a good shopping mall PACE but it got burnt due to something

It burned down in 2001, but has been rebuilt almost 2 years ago.

Pace shopping centre and Food Street are interesting.
