Lahore To Gilgit (Route Please??)

Salam folks,

Ok i am planning a trip to gilgit (gulmit and hunza) from lahore with my mates at the end of March. But i dont know how to get there. I am not going by road so basically i want a route via bus/coach or by air. I have searched a lot and cannot find anything direct. So anyone been there from lahore? which route did you take? Please do mention the total time and the cost.

Firstly You Need To Go Islamabad .......

From There You Need To Go To Natco Bus Service Stand And Book Tickets And Then Leave For Gilgit

Other Route Is From Islamabad To Gilgit By Air Ticket Costs Around 8-9K One Way

It Takes Around 18-20 Hours In Bus And Costs Around 4k May be

the flights do get cancelled.......so you need to be prapred to face that........ the bus route is VERY long.........takes around 22-24 hours........and qutie tiring.........

hmmm i have seen some routes by bus...and yup they are very long.

i wanna go by air but i cannot find any flight.....been to PIA's website and the gilgit airport is not even mentioned. :(

By Air:

Islamabad to Gilgit

PIA flight daily operates but depends on weather. Sometimes the flights are delayed for several weeks and often overbooked & cancelled. It is not possible to book tickets to Gilgit online, you will have to be in Islamabad/Rawalpindi to reserve the tickets.

By Bus/Coach:

Best Option: NATCO that leaves from Pir Wadhai, Rawalpindi. I went to Gilgit in Summer 2010 via NATCO, it was ok journey. Cost was I think 1500 per person but not very sure. The Route of NATCO is Rawalpindi --> Abbottabad --> Mansehra --> Batgram --> Besham --> Pattan --> Dassu --> Chilas --> Raikot Bridge (Fairy Meadows trek) --> Juglot --> Gilgit. The only problem was the Karakoram Highway. The work was going on from Besham till Khunjerab (as I went till Gojal afterwards on car) and the ride was very very bumpy and there were frequent road closures as engineers were busy blasting mountains with dynamites in order to widen the KKH. It took 24 hours to reach Gilgit from Rawalpindi. The news is that the KKH widening is still going on.

After NATCO, there are others like Mashabrum Travels, Saeed Travels etc.

Just asked a friend in Hunza about the cost.. It is Rs 1750 for normal coach, Rs.2100 for VIP coach.

Another option is hiring a Jeep from Abbottabad or Mansehra.. but it would cost a fortune I suppose :D But if you do try the Jeep option, then enter Northern Areas via Kaghan Valley/Babusar Top. Of course if Babusar Top is open by March end.
