LAHORE, July 16: The Punjab government is likely to launch civil works on various sections of 27-km long (Gajjumata to Shahdara) Lahore Rapid Mass Transit (LRMT) project in collaboration with Chinese firm NORINCO by October, this year. “The Chinese firm will first prepare the projects preliminary design within a month or so and the government, after receiving the design, will develop a formal proposal in this regard,” Lahore Transport Companys chairman and adviser to chief minister Khwaja Ahmad Hassan told Dawn on Saturday.
He said after developing a proposal and doing necessary arrangements, the official agencies concerned would start the civil work by utilising 15 per cent funds of the total project cost it was supposed to be spent as per an agreement with the Chinese firm.
He said the Chinese firm (NORINCO) would formally start executing the project by January 2012 after completion of final design and proposal.
Mr Hassan claimed that the project would help combat the public transport issues faced by the masses in the provincial capital.

In the meantime, the Umro Ayyar faced Babar Awan will be passing nasty comments on the ashiana housing scheme and the Kalma Chowk flyover and the current LRMT while suggesting new mischiefs to zardari like dividing punjab, creating problems for CJ.

i had heard about similar plans for Karachi...what happened to that? i hope this project isn't just BIG talk...let's see what they really mean...convenience to the masses or reaping political mileage for the time being.

I was personally involved in Karachi Mass Transit Project, superb project could have made life easier to masses, but the owners of Karachi mainly MQM and ANP forced Mushy to put the project in cold storage...and guess what, never ever accept any good project taking place while PPP is incharge

Umro Ayaar was not a negative character, actually he fought for Human against magicians and demons.... this babar awan is incarnation of devil, he laid out ground works for massacre in Karachi and he is working very hard to create civil war like situation in Punjab.... more the people dies, more Babar Awan and Rehman malik smiles

Come to think about it in fact you are right..... Umro was actually a religious person who was given a bad name by some bad people. However, I just think that Mr. Babar Hewan's face is soooo full of ayyari that I just cannot tell you. And yes, most of the nasties going around in pakistan are his brainchilds....... I hope people like him will rot in hell when the time comes.
