I have an interesting story of Motorway. My uncle was coming from Isloo to Lahore.
On the way, his car had trouble and engine stopped. He managed to pull the car on the side and opened the bonnet. He figured out the problem (apparently he needed a part). There are these call phones all along the motorway and since my uncle didn't carry any cellphone (mobile phone) so he walked to the nearest call phone and picked it up.
An operator responded within 3 seconds, and asked the nature of the problem. He explained the engine problem and the part required. The operator told him that help is on its way. Within 6 minutes a Motorway response unit in a Hiace van pulled along, and two guys came out with the desired part. They put the part in my uncle's car and asked him to make sure that nothing else is broken. The car started fine.
My uncle was so impressed, he decided to give them Rs 500. But those gentleman, gave him a bill for the part, which was approx Rs 47.50, plus Rs 10 for service charge, and asked him for the total of Rs 57.50. My uncle gave them Rs 60 and they returned Rs 2.50. Despite repeated requestes to accept additional gratuity, they said that they are not allowed to accept any thing above and beyond the price of the part. And with this, they said "Khuda Hafiz" and went off in their Hiace and my uncle continued on his journey to Lahore, without any futher incident.
He was so impressed with this level of service that he had published this as a Letter to the Editor in some english newspapers too. This happened sometime in 1999 or 2000 (I forgot the actual dates).
This is just to share the wonderful work being done by the folks who are maintaining this motorway. Considering all that the toll of Rs 170 does not seem high.
Nations do progress through thier physical links!
but in my opinion, this was not as much necessary, as to link other big cities to each other, which are industrial and goods producing!
There was already a better highway there,
so that was, at this time just waste of money! look at there, even we can't see any car, truck are beyond!
Instead of it, if he had worked to link Karachi with Lahore, that would be more progressive and appreciated, so that in between almost all big cities of sindh and Punjab could have a link,
But, instead; that ‘Industrialist’ (I would not call him a pm, ) had just link his 'palace' to his 'secretariat!'
And spent millions of dollars! Look at how many people are using it?
On the other side, Lahore , Karachi and other cities need more roads or at least repairs!
I am not against it, but their were more necessary thing which had to be done first! That’s all
I hope one day will come, when Karachi will be linked with Quetta , Lahore and Peshawar! on that day we will see; what we had lost in previous days!

ATA you should thank God this motorway was build. You never know $1B would have gone missing without the motorway. Any thing good you can get out of these politicians regardless of the motives is a win win game.

Have you ever read, just in one month, in capital city of sindh, 40 on the record young people have had suicide just cuz of hunger, in the mid of 90’s ????
I am talking about jutst in one city, one month, and on the record, off are separate!
now compare it with this.
I was literally crying those days, ya Allah what’s happening in here!
In the same city killing rate every day was from 20 to 300, this is per day, in same years, do compare the same as well!
But things are changing now, and it takes time yar!

Govt only paid ppl for land.. and only for tht purpose.. daewoo would take Tol Tax for next 20 odd yrs.. so plz hav a chill pill.. Motorway wasent made over starving sindhi’s..
and well i think it was the first futuristic idea to materialise ever in Pakistan.. i hope its worth it in next 10 yrs
moreover motorbikes are also not allowed, but damn.. you may see horses and donkeys driving cars , trucks, buses, and spoliling the joy of riding the gr8 motorway.
I think I may have the distinction of being the only guppie who has had the opportunity to drive on the Motorway BEFORE it was opened to the general public
this was in October 1997. I drove from Kalar Kahar to Lahore. There were very few cars, and no ‘tullas’ on the road. There were a lot of wild dogs, ,who’d never seen cars before, and they thought a car was some kind of animal they could bite. So they’d come on running to bite the car, only to be hit by it and die howling a slow and painful death. I killed about 5 dogs on the way.
The road was littered with countless corpses of dogs.
Apart from that it was one hell of a drive. The salt range was especially beautiful and the evening sun complemented the ochre hue of the rusty rocks…
