Is it true that there is now a garbage dumb situated a few meters from the Minar E Pakistan?
If so, thats horrendous.

The garbage situation all over Pakistan is terrible. Islam really stresses cleanliness, so I don't know why people don't apply that concept on the envinronment around them.
It's not just Pakistan but all of south east asia. I don't even think if they started putting garbage bins on street corners it would make any difference. People will not use them and continue to throw rubbish on the floor and out of windows.
Taking care of the environment isn't exactly a priority in Pakistan, but it should be. :(

People who live in Lahore, can contact some of the NGOs who work on health and sanitation. NGOs can be a good mean to approach such situation. THey are quicker, get media and govt attention fast. Even if govt doesnt have the will-power or means to resolve it, those NGOs will do it. There's one I can think of on top of my head. CCHD: Citizen's Commission for Human Development. They had been very active in clearing up lots of garbage mess in various areas of Lahore.
That's my suggestion.

Disgusting state...may be to the standards of the people living in the west. This scene is so common in Lahore, its almost part of the landscape. Have you seen Davis Road, Railway Road, Ferozpur Road near Ichra, its just a common garbage collection point....since the city has so many dump trucks some times the trucks just don’t come to pick up.
What you see there is an effort from the city government to gather all the garbage, luckily, its near the Minar-e-Pakistan, in few weeks it will dumped in a chappaR in some old neighborhood like, Cha Miran or Badami Bagh, and then kids will be playing on that ground.
Grow out of it, monuments are not important than people.

That is the Minar E Pakistan. Please someone contact someone who can help clean this up. That stands at the location of the Lahore Declaration, where Jinnah's masterpiece (in theory) took some shape.

That's true though, monuments and landmarks are not important that people. Forget Minar e Pakistan...the honor of a muslim, is such that it is higher that that of Kaaba. And the fact of the matter is, in pakistan, the honor, chastity, security and rights of muslims and non muslims alike are not safe...being used and abused by those in power.
Its a sad state really..

You are rite, the garbage dump is obviously at wrong place.
Just email it to main pakistani newspapers with an angry note (like the one here ) they will publish it and Lahore muncipality will get more than their due share of bashing. Dont dely do it now :k:

This is not a dump nor its few meters away from the monument.. its a skip and it seems quite far away.. the pic is taken at an angle to magnify the affect.. it is few hundredmeters away and at the main road.. the solid waste is picked at regular times at lahore .. the pic is taken befor it pick-up.. solid waste management problem is ever increasing in third world developing countries due to ever-increasing populations and changing lifestyles .. there may be worse scenes seen in cities as there are no proper landfill sites..

I emailed him, at his dawn address. Its a shame that the only man in the press who stands up for the common man and not vested interests in this Islamic Republic is a Parsi. Those "Muslim" journalists could learn a lot from him.

Perhaps other ppl to lambast over this disaster are the President and the Mayor of Lahore.
This is our national monument.
