Well the PM is funny, saying they are working hard to overcome the energy crisis and that they inherited 5000 MW shortfall. The shortfall is still there, infact worsened…so working hard…:@:

Government working hard to control energy crisis: Gilani | DAWN.COM

**Lahore: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani acknowledged energy crisis was affecting every sector of the country and expressed determination to overcome it with the cooperation of all stake holders.
**
Addressing second national energy conference here on Monday, Gilani said massive load shedding has resulted in heavy losses to the economy and every segment of society has been disturbed.

**“Due to efforts of the government the situation has been improved. However, it is essential to chalk out long term strategy to enhance power generation,” Gilani said. **:@:

“We will have to make collective and individual efforts to boost electricity generation through various means to get rid of load shedding,” he stressed.

He assured the government will give serious consideration to proposals of the conference to increase electricity generation and reduce load shedding in minimum time. ****{was 4 years a short time?:confused:}
“Unfortunately we inherited net shortfall of 5000MW and made strenuous efforts to increase generation. There is need to further concentrate on enhancing generation.”

**The prime minister said that as a result of measures taken by the PPP-led government a total of 3400MW electricity has been inducted in the national grid. **{strange planning 3400 MW have been inducted in the system but the net shortfall is still the same}

**He felt people will have to play part by consuming less power as energy requirements in the country are enhanced by seven per cent every year.
**He said power tariff has been increased due to increase in petroleum products prices in the international markets.

Earlier in welcome address, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif spoke on current energy situation in the country specially in Punjab province.

He suggested one-window operation at Prime Minister House to solve problems of power generation.

Chief ministers of the provinces, federal ministers and other officials also attended the conference.

The participants suggested various measures in order to overcome energy crisis.

**Water and Power Minister Syed Naved Qamar said the government was working to overcome the crisis for which number of steps has already been implemented.

Re: Lahore: 2nd energy conference to be held today

^^^ PPP member was confronted with bogus claims of shortfall inheritance and how government has added so much more energy and he was speechless when presented with proofs. President of Faisalabad chamber of commerce also blasted Raja Riaz when he used similar excuses and told him that there is no way the demand has increased because 30% industry has closed or relocated elsewhere so the demand has decreased if anything.

All PPP minister could say was "the demand has increased due to substantial increase in middle class and hence people buying more electronic goods"
It is obviously laughable if they think middle class has increased, all figures reveal the truth.

Re: Lahore: 2nd energy conference to be held today

During Musharraf’s regime middle class increased, which has been ‘killed’ in this regime.

SS has also blasted the federal government on the discriminatory attitude towards Punjab.

**LAHORE: Demanded an end to unannounced power loadshedding, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said his province was facing discrimination over the issue.
**
Addressing the media here on Monday before the start of the energy conference, Sharif said he does not want to indulge into blame games but the entire country including Punjab was suffering from the energy crisis.

The energy conference began here on Monday under the chairman ship of Prime Minister Yousf Raza Gilani and was being attended by the chief ministers of the provinces.

Sharif said the sacrifices made for the National Finance Commission (NFC) award have been rendered into a form of punishment.

**The economy has been destroyed due to the energy crisis, he said, adding that industries have suffered losses due to which investors were left with no option but to transfer their investments abroad.
**
The PML-N leader suggested that sugarcane bagasse can be used to produce up to 2000 MW of electricity.

Being the chief executive of Punjab, it was his duty to inform of the problems being faced by the people, he said. —DawnNews

Re: Lahore: 2nd energy conference to be held today

Not a single conference in the first 4 years, and now all of a sudden, 2 conferences in a matter of weeks, with little to show for. Election year ploy?

And I fail to understand the concept of ‘end to unannounced loadshedding’. What would that accomplish? Govt would simply switch over to ‘announced loadshedding’. At the end of the day, consumers will still be out of electricity for more than half the day on average.

These long marches and rallies and conferences are all election year gimmicks by PPP and PML-N. For the major part of PPP’s tenure, Sharif and Zardari were bhai-bhai, and now the Sharifs are going their way because they want the next turn.

Re: Lahore: 2nd energy conference to be held today

Now both sides have two energy conferences under their belts.
Who cars if they all showed up for a photo op, non of them was able to present any new thing other then the same old promises.
