As far as I remember in the rules of tajweed, lahn al khafi are the minor mistakes and lahn al jali are the major mistakes.

lahn means aawaa, jali means open/clear/bright and Khafii mean chhupi/muted/mild so i wud think it has to do something with tajweed. either khafi [maddham aawaaz] or jali [louder]

** U cud be right as it appears the words refer to the depth of the mistake
lahn al khafi is a small mistake whilst the other ( jafi) is a big mistake … this is proving to be very interesting as its all part of reading Quran with Tajhweed- the correct pronunciation… **thanks for the qn as I think many wil investigate this :k:

Someone give examples of lahn al khafi and lahn al jali in tajweed.

I think one example would be whn you pronounce ain as alif and change the meaning of the word or taw as taa and change the meaning of the word: lahn al jali.

**Yes Nisik this is correct.. its also when u dont use the punctuation of sukoon , kasra, fatha and dhamma with words .. for example

kitab ( book ) in arabic has a kasra at the bottom of the Kahf (zer) and a sukoon over the b and therefore its eununciated as kitaab... if u put a fataha over the Kahf- it would read ka***tab which is the incorrect pronunciation and its this that lahn al jai and khafi are meaning ....*

There are so many intricate rules in Tajweed that we miss out. Maybe reminding each other will help us read better...

Please share other rules.

Ur absolutely right and I believe this could be a wonderful opportunity to focus on Tajhweed... when I learnt to read the Quraane Pak- it wasnt the true Arabic pronunciation - as Ive got older I now am trying to consciously change this by learning Tajhweed - its very difficult and inshallah I hope to succeed... but I feel the basic step is to know the Arabic Alphabet and a must is the punctuation and vowels- without this knowledge- we will never pronounce the script correctly and so these lahn al jali and khafi will continue.....the tricky letters are
1) taa and thaa**
2) daal and thaal (from the glottal)
3) eayn ( from the back of ur throat
4) qaaf ( from the glottal ) and kaaf

The pronunciation of these letters is really difficult and they change according to the punctuation and letters they precede or come after......
