Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

New York: M Night Shyamalan, the acclaimed Indian director and his love for treating the supernatural subject surfaced in his latest interview. He talked about his love of ‘the supernatural’, ‘India’ and his latest flick The lady in water in an exclusive interview to Anirudh Bhattacharya of CNN–IBN.

His latest flick Lady in Water is releasing on July 21 all across the United States.

The movie will soon come to Indian theatres after being screened among the U.S audience.

Shyamalan is famous for treating supernatural subject interwoven in real situations and characters in his films. Most of his films have ordinary characters with extraordinary abilities or mysterious events happening to them.

On being asked as to why he was attracted so much to the supernatural subject he said that his affinity with the subject has more to do with his faith in religion.

“Its about can you believe in something if I convince you? An alien , a supernatural thing, something for which you have no evidence.” said Shyamalan.

Paul Giamatti plays an apartment building superintendent in the film who rescues a young woman from the pool. “The apartment building is supposed to be a little microcosm of the world”, said Shyamalan in his interview to CNN- IBN.

Giamatti who is in the lead role, becomes shocked when he discovers that the lady he rescued is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home.“These are the same bedtime stories I used to tell my kids”, said Shyamalan.

Shyamalan is famous for making cameo appearances in his movies. On being asked if he is superstitious about making these cameo appearance he laughed off.

He plays a much larger part in his latest flick.

“I like doing emotional part in my movies. I felt very connected with the role I play in Lady in water” said Shyamalan.

Shyamalan also starred in a two-minute American Express commercial, which was premiered on the Oscar night. Written and directed by Shyamalan , the commercial is running in U.S as a major hit.

Born in India but raised in the posh suburban Penn Valley area of Philadelphia, Shyamalan developed a passion for filmmaking quite early in his life.

He has frequently used Philadelphia as the backdrop in his movies. As seen in his films Wide Awake (1998), The Sixth Sense (1999), Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002) and The villages (2004).

In his interview he said that he would love to a film in India sometime.“I was looking forward to do some part of my movie in India. I almost did the opening of Signs in India.Like it opens with an Indian family finding crop circles in the fields and later Mel Gibson finds similar circles in the field of Pennsylvania”

The movie Lady in water has Sarita Choudhry, an Indian actress who plays Shyamalan’s sister in the film. Shyamalan is upbeat about having an Indian in actress in his cast this time. “It was fun for me to have an Indian actress in the cast. Though the movie is truly international, it has some Spanish actors in it too.”

Shyamalan continues his trend of supernatural, mystery flicks with The lady in water.

Watch out for some spine chilling experience.

The New York Times reviewed his movie "The Village" under the heading "Village Idiot.":D Very completely appropriate and deserved by Shyamalan.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

His movies are the worst pieces of crap that I've ever seen. Almost as bad as any retarded Bollywood film.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

i liked signs tho.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

He's very Hitchcockian in his technique. Good looking too. That's why his movies get great openings even if the script is weak.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

I did not like The Village, but the rest were really nice

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

I had never seen a pic of his wife before…she is sooo pretty!
And I never knew that he was so young, he must be in his 30s. Anyways, i’m just glad that a desi is recognized for his talents.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

Except, “The Sixth Sense”

I might check this one out 'cause of Paul Giamatti.

his wife’s pretty hot :hula:

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

No, he's got decent looks and a pizzaz that enhances them. That's why many Americans go ooh when they see him on screen, or in that AE ad.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

People have above:

Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Signs
The Village
and now Lady in the Water

People have said it’s becoming a bit formulaic, always about discovering some unknown world in our midst, etc.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

Sahar, did you forget to mention Wide Awake? I thought that was his too.

I'm a big fan of his. Loved all his movies.
And I think he's quite attractive too.....which btw, has nothing to do with his money or fame.
I suspect it does have something to do with the way he uses his mind.

Re: Lady in Water - By M. Night Shyamalan

I happen to like his films. And I loved The Village :snooty:
