I’m not sure I like Gwen Stefani’s fashion statements; I’ve never found her looks particularly interesting or original. Also, it seems like Stefani’s style choices are dictated by the men she’s with and not with any inherent sense of style; when she was with Tony Kanal and even after the break-up, Stefani was a hardcore Desi-wannabe. When she started seeing Gavin Rossdale, Stefani began to look more and more like Rossdale’s ex-lover, the drag-queen Marilyn. When Stefani and Rossdale took a break from each other, so did Stefani’s Marilyn-inspired style, and she was free to experiment with more Rockabilly/psychobilly and punk looks. Then, when Rossdale returned to Stefani’s life, so did the red-lipped, winged-liner, trannylicious look. At least Gaga’s style is dictated by a stylist and not by Gavin Rossdale’s taste in men.
