**Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Florence and the Machine and Pixie Lott go head-to-head at the Brits on Tuesday, leading the shortlist with three nominations each.**X Factor runners-up JLS are also up for a possible hat-trick.
Performers at the UK’s biggest music awards include Lady Gaga, Kasabian, Cheryl Cole, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
Prince Harry has recorded a message for the live show, as the ceremony celebrates its 30th anniversary. The awards themselves began in 1977.
Comedian Peter Kay will host the event, at London’s Earls Court, which will include a duet between Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine and rapper Dizzee Rascal.
Mama Do
Robbie Williams will receive the honorary award for outstanding contribution to music, ending the show with a live performance.
Williams is also nominated in the best male category alongside Dizzee, Mika, Paolo Nutini and Calvin Harris.
Lott, Allen and Welch are all nominated for best female artist, alongside Leona Lewis and Bat for Lashes. Allen is the bookmakers’ favourite to win.
Welch and Allen are also up for best British album - with Welch’s Lungs favourite to walk away with the prize.
Nineteen-year-old Lott joins Welch in the nominations list for best breakthrough act, and is also up against Allen in the best singles category. The pair are nominated for Mama Do and The Fear respectively.
Boy band JLS are up for best breakthrough act, best British group and best British single, for Beat Again - their debut single which went straight to number one last summer.
The single prize represents the group’s best chance of picking up a trophy, as it is decided by public vote.
Gaga is nominated for best international female solo artist and best international album for The Fame - she is tipped by bookmakers to win both. She is also up for best international breakthrough.
Two special categories have been created to celebrate the best of the Brits over the past 30 years - the best Brits performance and the best album since the ceremony began.
Singer Ellie Goulding has already been announced as the winner of the critics’ choice prize, which tips a new act for success in the coming year. Last year’s prize went to Florence and the Machine.
