Lady Fingers

Or Orka
Or Bhindi

Is it possible to freeze uncooked fresh bhindi?

if yes, how does one go about defrosting it when they have time to cook it?

Re: Lady Fingers

Yes, absolutely.

When you are ready to cook it, just put the frozen bhindi into the masalas. It turns out great!

Re: Lady Fingers

So I wash, dry and cut them up as normal, freeze and then hoy them in once im done cooking the masala?

Do I not need to let them defrost first?

Re: Lady Fingers

No, don't defrost, otherwise they become sticky.

You can leave them out while your preparing the masala. That's enough time to defrost naturally.

Re: Lady Fingers

Oh ok. Good Stuff.

Awww thanks Niki luv!

I would have asked my daddi, but she would have killed me not cooking them fresh. I aint got the time, plus iv just washed me hair and I dont want to be smelling like a curry muncher innit!

Re: Lady Fingers

So what recipe will you be using??

Re: Lady Fingers

Whenever I use frozen okra, I always run them under water, pan fry them and then add in the masala.

Re: Lady Fingers

My own.

I make stuff up as I go along, but vaugely, soften onions, add fresh tomatoes, fry lady fingers in a separate pan for a bit, add to onions and tomatoes and let it amalgamate and simmer until cooked. Corriander on top and job done! oh and I always add a bit of anardana (i dont know what it is called in English) to lady fingers, gives it a nicer taste.

Re: Lady Fingers

Ok today I made okra…

Since many ppl are posting pics of the steps too so I thought I’d do it as well…lol..

Final product. I think pic didn’t came that good.

  1. Fill the okra with a mixture of salt+red pepper+chat masala (Ratio= 1:1/2:1)

  2. Fry the okra.

  3. In another pan make masala with onions, garlic, tomato puree, and the masala mixture remaining from okra.

  4. Add the fried okra to the masala

  5. Slice onions, tomatoes, and green pepper.

  6. stiry fry onions and green chillies.

  7. After few mins add sliced tomatoes and stir fry them for few more mins.

  8. Add the onion tomatoe mixture to the okra in masala. Incorporate them in each other. Leave it on dum for few mins. Enjoy with chutney/achar and roti.

girls, have u ever tried bhindi raitha? cut fresh okra (10-15 okra shd suffice) into thin slices and fry them in a little oil with salt and lal mirch til crispy. add the fried bhindi into a bowl of whipped yoghurt and let it sit 15 mins. then enjoy with roti or biryani.
