She dresses very inappropriately (she has a relatively good figure for her age), comes home past midnight, and smells of alcohol. She’s obnoxious and unappreciative of her husband who she yells at and calls a dog. In fact your FIL is a complete doormat who brings home the salary and does anything his wife says. You even begin to suspect that she is cheating on her husband. Not even suspect, your sure of it. Her clothes smell like men’s cologne, when she get home she heads straight for the shower, and one time a gori man was waiting outside the house to pick her up late at night. She returned next morning, claiming to have spent the night at friends. So why don’t you leave? Your husband knows of the behavior but is too scared to confront his own mother. You have kids and your own parents would never believe the situation your in and take you back. Your FIL is living in fantasy-land pretending nothing is wrong and your husband keeps saying its against the religion to leave, ignoring you when you claim otherwise.

These situations really happen??? Nevermind that I cant belive some men can be such door mats. I know a lot of Women can be tanks but why would a man be stupid enough to marry such a woman in the first place, unless anti-tank warfare was his thing.
Waissay theres always the arranged accident or just long term vaccation.

I suppose this sort of moral decadence is not unkown in Pakistan either, but seriously it is a very disturbing and alarming trend. I understand bad women are a thing that will happen in all races and cultures at some point and not even the most stringent regimes can prevent this problem... but such pests would never have had such an easy time a few years back. Not even in the high class cities or the burger elite.
What I find very disturbing is how some will say its acceptable or normal, a sign of progress perhaps. Thats when the Jihadists/rigth wingers/extreme conservatives can have a field day, but they might well have a valid point too. Its a blot on society as well as for the fammily involved.

Most ladies would love such a MIL ... the moment the MIL says anything the DIL didn't like she would say ... "I'm just an honourable wife to your son ... !!!"
Those exclamation marks that follow in real speech would say it all ... :D
You see the DIL fears that the MIL has the "holier than thou" or "Wiser than thou" complex ... always ready to tell and teach her DIL the ways of the family ...
Such a MIL is unlikely to be intimidating at that level and they might actually get along ... may be even make the DIL jealous of her care free attitude .... I gather the DIL would feel so sorry for the FIL that she would become a type of buddy and friend for him ...

I've never come across such kind of situation so far but I see a woman who actually behaved like a "roothi hui mehbooba" (sorry for using the bad word but can't find anything better to describe). Like whenever she sees her son and DIL going out somewhere she starts making sad faces and presenting herself as someone MAZLOOM. I dont know why WOMEN do this. They need to be a li'l realistic
