There is a mod here, who has such a site. Sabah was singing in their praise some weeks ago. Ask Sabah or Akif for the online site.

I have a general question for the ladies of this forum. I want to learn to sew my own salwaar kameez. I am tired of my suits that I never like the way others sew, I want to create my own creations. How shall I learn to sew salwaar kameez? I am thinkin of taking classes but here in the west they will teach how to sew skirts, shirts, pants, is this good for a basis ??

Saadia, its not that difficult…and its really fun…

See, if you already have some shalwaar kameezes lying with you, un ko ULTA karein, and look at how the stitching is done and how they are cut. Making simple kamizes is really simple and same for shalwars…

you can put the old ones on the new cloth and mark with chalk and cut and then sew…

experiment a little bit…shuru mayn the first few might not turn out perfect but u will learn as u go along…

and u can also, if u have old shalwaar kameezein, unstitch them and practice on their stitches to learn…that way u will also learn how many different pieces u will have…

normally u have 4..one for front side of kamiz, one for back side, two for sleeves…

dont make fancy galay in the beginning, go with square galay its the easiest…and after that u can go for different designs…

practice will make you perfect..u can start practising on not so expensive cloth that u can wear to go to sleep and stuff if they turn out bad :biggrin:

just be sure the stitching is done with NAFASAT and be careful…the rest is all common sense really…its really fun, i’m sure you’ll enjoy it and get to be good at it if you take interest :~)

I will start praticing in my holidays. Well I was asking if a course will hepl me and I decided it might. I love being creative … so I hope to design my own salwaar kameez very soon.

I don't know how big the Pakistani community is in your area, but typically a lot of auntie like women are really good at sewing and cutting. You may want to find someone and learn from them. The ones in my area were all very interested in helping the young girls learn some sughrapa!

Well there are few aunties that I think can sew s/k ... but if they are really interested in helping ... err I dunno. .. but my own mom and aunty can sew ... I will try to learn myself first and if I don't get it I will ask for help then ... thanks for your reply . :)
