Ladies advice needed!

So I’m not sure if this has been posted - but I have a question. I think I may be getting a monthly visit around my wedding time and I really don’t want that. I know people take Birth Control pills to stop it and I am going to consult my family doctor. But just wanted to ask the ladies here what they did in a similar situation? Is there any other medication beside BC pills? I’ve never taken those and I don’t really want to. I’m not even sure how it all works.

I also don’t wanna try it out first time around the wedding. So I was thinking trying in Feb/March and pushing the date behind so I won’t even have to take it in June for my wedding.

Re: Ladies advice needed!

You should start your BC at least one month before your wedding, to give it time to regulate your cycle. There are types of BC that won't completely stop your cycle. The most commonly-prescribed ones are hormone-regulation therapy, which keeps your cycle, but it guarantees that you will get it at the same time every month, so that it's more predictable.

Re: Ladies advice needed!

i'm pretty sure the only way to do it is with birth control pills- you can either do this by immediately starting a new pack of active pills (i.e. skip the sugar pills in your pack that represent the week you get your period) after finishing the last one - i did this for my wedding (first time i tried it) and i still got cramping and light bleeding probably since i hadn't been on the pill long and my body wasn't used to it (also i was so busy and kept forgetting to take my pill on time every day so that could have contributed too)

or you can try to start taking your pills for the first time on a day that times it so that you won't get your period during the time you don't want it

if you do get on BC start it a few months before the wedding so your body can get used to it

i don't think it's good for your body to start it just to change your cycle and then stop taking it just for your wedding- talk to your doctor- he/she will know more than any of us

P.S. they might move this thread to the health and beauty forum

Re: Ladies advice needed!

If you don't want your period on your wedding day....the only way for you to stop it is by taking BC pills. Whether you like it or not....that's your only choice. If you don't know anything about it....look it up online....you'll find TONS of information.

And on a side note....if you decide to take it...you'll need to start at least 2-3 months BEFORE the wedding so your body gets used to the pills and the cycle gets regulated. Starting the pills on the month of your wedding won't do much good.

Re: Ladies advice needed!

Hi,

I was looking into it when I was going on vacation and wanted to delay my period by a week...there is a pill just for that and I just can't remember the name of it on top of my head..I will look through my old bookmarks to see if I can find it..

Your GP should definitely know about it. Let me find out for you..

Re: Ladies advice needed!

The alternative in Norethisterone. You have to take it 3 times a day, starting around 3days before you are due to have your period. Once you stop, you should bleed after around 3days. This is what I have always taken when going to Saudi for Umrah & it works really well. The only downside is remembering to take it 3x day!

Personally, I would go for that rather than BC pills if it is just to delay your periods, but your Dr should be able to give you more advice :)

I hope the wedding goes well, In-sha Allah

Re: Ladies advice needed!

^^ that's it starberry1....

I couldn't rembmer the name it is Norethisterone...soo much better than taking BC pills..

Re: Ladies advice needed!

Thanks guys.

I'm gonna ask my doc about those pills - thanks! I guess I can take them by Frb/March to push my date back so I don't need to take it in June. I know most people take BC pills, but I feel nervous taking those. Although I guess I will need to take BC anyway after getting married...I dunno.

If ur planning on taking BC after your wedding anyway then still start it a few months before, also with the BC youl have to see if your wedding comes in the weeks ur taking it our your 'break' where ul get your cycle. I take BC to control my periods as i had period problems before and ive skipped a break sometimes and started a fresh pack when i went on holiday etc but dont start it in the month of ur wedding as u might still get a bleed as ur body gets used to it.! Consult ur GP for deffo x

Re: Ladies advice needed!

i had taken bc pills once to regularize my days ... according to my gyn. doc ... she said that itll help cuz my acne used to pop n all if there used to be a delay what happens is that u take them but when u stop .. ur days hit u ..

anyways point being when i started to take them .. the medicine had a reaction and i started to have this nasty skin problems .. and they would just come out anywhere .. it hurt so bad tht i cudnt even walk for two couple of weeks ..

its not that the bc pills had reacted but there are different chemicals used in different brands .. so the one u might be using might cause u some sort of allergy ... hence its always safe to try them out 2 months in advance .. so that u dont have problems near ur wedding!

also .. if u have loads of time .. its better that u ask ur doc to regularize ur days with the help of some med. there are other meds out there too for REGULARIZE them ... so that u knw they dont just show up on ur wed. day

Re: Ladies advice needed!

Yeah I suppose I'll ask my GP about BC pills as well. I'm just so nervous of the idea of taking it, even after wedding. Not sure if it's a necessity or if just the most basic form of protection is good enough.
