Lack of Female Singers..

A thought ocurred to me regarding female singers of Pakistan. As a committed Pakistani Music fan, I noticed that we seriously lack female singers (mind you the talent is there!).

The three big ‘divas’ I can think of are Shazia Manzoor, Hadiqa Kiani and Naseebo Lal. While they are all excellent but that number is pathetically small for a country like Pakistan.

Now the problem, why aren’t there more female vocalists coming into the industry? Do you think it’s a cultural taboo like acting in Paki Films?

My Mom, who is an avid Noor Jahan fan, told me that during her days growing up in Pakistan, there used to be more female singers who mostly sang folk music. Espicially in Punjab, the folk tradition was very strong amongst woman. Now has this changed?

Any and all thoughts will be appreciated..

The eyelids of a Rajputs eyes are lowered only in death.

There are lots of them out there and they're all still working on debut albums. I have seen a lot in concert although, sadly, I dont remember a lot of their names. There is this one sindhi singer I heard out here in a concert and her voice was just wonderful, but i'm not sure what she is doing.

Humera Arshad, Shabnam Majeed are two that Prime has really been promoting and as a result they've fast gained popularity. Although the two are predominantly into Punjabi pop music. As far as the urdu front is concerned, Uzma Shah was supposed to release one, but God knows where she went off to.

It seems that a lot of filmii singers are following Shazia Manzoor and heading out to pop or remixes of filmi songs.

Zara Sheikh is going to be coming into the field with Ali Haider, according to the newspapers, and a few new are out there like Naghmana Jaffery.

I think the zamaana is changing fast and I seriously believe we'll see more women coming out of hiding.

u mean Shaazia Khushk? rite? yep i like her aswell
