some time i wonder why god gives pains during delivery..what is the reason...
According to the Christian/Catholic Bible, it is punishment for Eve taking the forbidden fruit and tempting Adam.

Re: Labor and Delivery
^ LOL - Sahar - but don't you ever wonder if Eve did not eat the forbidden frit (AKA alcohol in todays times) then Eve would have a hard time seducing?
It's the bad that gets the attention. lol
Re: Labor and Delivery
^ LOLs. I don't buy the "Eve tempted Adam" story. Just another convenient way for men to villainise women. :D
Re: Labor and Delivery
Think of other peoples' pain. That is what eventually got me through it. I thought of my dad and what other people endure during death and that pushed me to push the little guy out!! If people can endure that kind of pain, then child birth is bearable.
It does hurt, but it is bearable. Your state of mind plays a huge role in how well you handle it, aside from complications in the birth of course. It's different for everbody. I had an epidural put in twice and it didn't work. My body completely rejected it.
You know what? After say 9 months, you will forget the pain that you went through. That's why people have more kids!!
You will be fine, inshallah.
Re: Labor and Delivery
Mehnaz is right, 5 months after the birth, i have completely forgotten the pain, lol.
Abt nubain etc, is that one of the IV pain med? i got that when i awas 8-9 cms dilated and it didnt take care of the pain, only dulled it for about 15 mins. I could still feel it but i was too out of it and dizzy to respond. When ic ame to, i immediately asked for another dose and was told that i can only get one in an hour :D
Re: Labor and Delivery
The nubain dose comes in 2 parts - one is given via the IV and the other is given via an intra-muscular injection (huge needle in the butt). The IV part is fast acting but wears off quickly, the IM shot lasts longer. I did only the IV part to help with the worst of the pains and it did help for me...
Re: Labor and Delivery
What's the difference between these and the epidural?
Re: Labor and Delivery
Nubain and demerol are narcotics which are approved for pain releif. They're given in a shot in the hip or in an IV. The epidural is a spinal anesthesia which is given in a shot placed in the spinal column and numbs you from the waist down. Since its given in the spinal column, theres a risk of spinal fluid leakage which can cause severe headaches and back pain.
Re: Labor and Delivery
Thanks alot for the kind word girls. As soon as the little one pops out I cannot wait to share my experience with you all here. (stay tuned maroush!)
I get scared very easily with the hospital environment and seeing all those doctors with needles, medical equipment etc. Its funny because I am a medical student planning on becoming a doctor in a few years. Ironic, huh?
I have heard Nubain doesn't work for some women and it wears off pretty fast. Mama, your lucky that didn't happen with you.
Re: Labor and Delivery
I had spinal epidural during my first delivery as i was in pain for 4 days. I wasnt opening, this time I have learned in my birth class that I had not taken last time, that i was too tense each time I had a contraction. u have to let urself go and think each time the pain is there, its taking u near ur kid and opening the door for it to pass through. I have learned the breathing techniques that i didnt last time, so lets see what this time will bring, just 3-4 weeks more insahallah, wish u all the best.
Just pray & hope for the best & try not to worry. Easy to say but just go with the flow & be open minded to anything necessary. All my life I was told I have hips for childbirth (not sure why) but I had a skinny but wide frame. Umm I had a c-section because baby never dropped and was breech. Just pray Allah makes it easy on you and you have a healthy baby and safe delivery.
Re: Labor and Delivery
Anyone had a spinal for a c-section? How was that experience? Do you still get the epidural in the spine or is there another way to drug you down? Also is it freaky to be awake while they operate to take the baby out. So far if the baby position doesn't go transverse, I am going to have a c-section with Spinal. I am so freaked but just praying. I still have a while to go though.
Re: Labor and Delivery
^ My cousin had a spinal epidural for her c-section about 4 months ago. Her husband kept her distracted while they operated. There's a curtain separating so you can't see anything.

When do you start these classes?
I'm also planning to take prenatal yoga.
Re: Labor and Delivery
Sahar, your OB-GYN should let you know when to take the classes and will probably let you know when the classes are available at your local hospital. Last time I took them in my 7th month, they do help a lot and teach you various relaxation techniques to taking care of newborn.
Re: Labor and Delivery
Sahar I just took my lamaze class last week and it was amazing. Me and hubby learned alot. I would highly recommend it to any expecting couple!
Saadia- Best of Luck! 3-4 weeks left for me as well :-)
Afro-Sheen- Keep praying and stay strong Inshaallah everything will be alright.

Here the class starts after the 30 th week, we do some physical exercises and breathing exercises, plus the midwife really motivates you, which is good. I think yoga is the same, maybe some exercises are just different.
I have read some other methods that can make birth easy, will update it if someone is interested.

.
Thanks, lets hear from each other after the birth.
Re: Labor and Delivery
I'm not even that scared of the contractions (because I'm planning on an epidural). It's the thought of passing a baby through that very narrow passage. It just seems impossiblle. I am terrified of that.
Re: Labor and Delivery
I have started to freak out a little bit too now.
But then I tell myself that so many women do it ,I can do it too.And Inshallah the reward will be all worth it.
I was telling my husband the same thing that how will the baby ever come out.He says we will put in a quarter and voila!
It wasnt funny but would have been great if this was the way it happened :D
