Laaj - Rauf Khalid's Pakistani movie

we all know what the problems are -- how did it come to be that way?

If we know how it happened, we can figure out the best way to undo it...and obviously, immitating indian movies is not the way out.

What i find interesting is that there is a rising parallel independent film industry that is being formed slowly and there you'll see substantial work...it seems like people are giving up and starting up an entirely different pakistani film industry from scratch...maybe this film industry will develop and take over and the old studios of lollywood trash will become artifacts?

PCG, what other fascinations you have? Weird or not.

PS-
Waisay, Paki dramas suck pretty bad these days. The common scenario is that you have couple of hot chicks and matching-in-number good-looking guys who randomly cross eachother in living rooms, parks, or dariya kinaray and exchange few pseudo-flirticious dialogues which almost always leave room for later complex, romantic conflicts among three or more people, where women come off being more uncertain, shrewd, or exploitive about the whole thing, while guys confront other peechaida questions related to their semi-criminal lives.

Humaray zamanay meiN (back in 80's) seeday saaday ishq hotay thay draamoN meiN. Pehli aik dou qistoN meiN payar wayar ho jata tha. Aik martaba uss ka kaanta nikal gaya to phir hero aaraam say, sakoon say apnay dushman kee talash meiN nikal khaRa hota tha, jiss kee vajaH say other interesting characters like Choudhary Hashmat in Waris introduce hotay thay aur bachay galiyooN meiN rozaana uss kay dialogues bol bol kar nahi thakatay thay. Aap hee batayay, konsay dialogues chal rahay heiN aaj kal galiyooN meiN? Koi bhi nahi!

Script se lamba tau post script ho gya aapka Roman.

Femme, yay sab aap ka qasoor hai. Aap nay hee aadat daal rakhee hai apnay khawaboN say ziyada apnay khayalaat kee.

:rotfl:

are you sure you’re tuned to Pakistani channels?

I agree with you roman...people stopped watching pakistani dramas when the dish came into pakistan and everyone was glued to indian dramas ... today's pakistani dramas are just an imitation of indian dramas (most of them - some are quite interesting even now).

So, here we go back to the film-related question

Is our entertainment sucking because we dont have good entertainers or because our audience is too stupid these days to discern good quality from bad? Is our audience "india-crazy" which has made our script writers/directors immitate trashy productions?

Somewhere along the line, glamour took over and quality got left behind. Why?

personally i think its because of the brain drain that pakistan is suffering, with all intelligent folks making the run for the airport with amrikan and european visas...people just dont do anything intellectual out there anymore...my family was telling me that they've noticed a lot of bookstores closing down and mithai dukaans and fast food resteraunts opening up in place - now what does that say about the quality of the today's avg pakistani citizen?

I disagree. Over the last two years i've seen plenty of dramas and non of'em I found an imitation of indian ones. Script wise, dialogue wise, performence wise, nothing nada. The only one that is an imitation is Meray Apney Meray Sapnay. That's all.

oh common now a few book stores in you neighborhood closed down and every Pakistani in every part of the country suddenly becomes the subject of your morality assessment.

people who live in these parts of the world are very good in generalization, especially when it comes to pakistan :-)

whoever think that pakistani dramas are an imitation of indian dramas needs to have his/her eyes checked. yes pakistani dramas are not AS GOOD AS they used to be but still their standards are not AS LOW as indian dramas and comparing the two is like apples and oranges.

^exactly man.

Hadd hoti hai critcism ki bhi if it's a valid one then most welcome. But the problem is that people mix critiquing with critcising. They think they're critquing but as a matter of fact they're critcising.

HELLO FRIENDS,
HOPE ALL OF U WILL FINE WHEREEVER U R.I'VE READ UR COMMENTS ON LAAJ, LET ME EXPLAIN ONE THING IT ISN'T A
PATRIOTIC MOVIE ONLY,BUT AFILM STATS WITH AROMANCE &ENDED IN A WAR.AND THE OTHER THING TO EXPLAIN IS THATWHERE IS "PATRIOTISM" IN IT WELL, IF U EVER READ ABOUT FAKIR IPPY (ITHINK U NEVER) HE IS A MYSTIC AND LIVED IN A VILLAGE CALLED"IPPY" WHICH IS SITUATED IN NWFP ,PROVINCE OF PAKISTAN.
HE IS OUR HERO.HE FOUGHT AGAINST BRITISHERS AND HINDUS FOR ISLAM.THIRDLY IF PATRIOTISM IS "TYPICAL" STYLE OF RK THEN IWISH ALL THE PAK'S SHOULD BE "TYPICAL" AS HIM.WE CAN EASILY DISCUSS EVERY THING EXCEPT PAKISTAN.AND LET ME ASK ONE THING
IFU CAN'T UNDERSTAND SOMEONE'S POINT OF VIEW IT DOESN'T MEAN
THAT HE IS WRONG. BUT IT MEANS THAT U HAVE NOT THE SAME MENTAL LEVEL THAT SOMEONE HAVE.SO THINK ABOUT IT.

Why are the women trying to look Hindu?

Bcoz the the girls are MEANT to look like that - Hindu!

The print of the songs that they r showing on telly has been badly telecine'd.

They put so much effort into the sets, costumes, music etc. but heck that is pointless when they cant even get a decent print in the end. The whole effort goes down the drain.

Moreover, the film's posters and website carry the look of a 'Gujjar' film....and this is supposed to be an 'international' film...dream on!

Box office prediction: Disaster! [the hero is apprently the guy from 'chalo ishq larain' - he emenates lazy and dumb vibes bigtime, coz he cant act!]

So their characters portray them as Hindu? Why don’t they do films on Pakistani culture.

the movie's set in the pre-independence timeframe. The gal converts to Islam after marrying the Pathan hunk?].
