Kuwaiti MPs call to enforce hijab

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti lawmakers are pressing the authorities to force women to wear the hijab headscarf ahead of a court ruling on Wednesday concerning two women MP who refuse to wear it.
**
“Hijab is a legal and religious obligation,” MP Jamaan al-Harbash told a rally late on Saturday organised by some lawmakers to enforce the hijab in the oil-rich emirate. In early October the emirate’s Fatwa Department, which issues religious edicts, ruled that Muslim women must wear the hijab in line with Islamic law. “The government must apply the law and the fatwa,” regarding the hijab, MP Faisal al-Muslim said told the rally. **Liberal MPs have said that the fatwa is non-binding, insisting that the rule of law and the constitution should be the only points of reference. And on October 11, Rula Dashti, a liberal woman lawmaker, filed an amendment to the electoral law, saying sharia regulations in the electoral law is a breach of the constitution.

**Dashti wants to scrap the requirement that women must comply with Sharia guidelines which were introduced four years ago, when parliament voted to grant women full political rights. At the time parliament added a precondition that both women voters and candidates must comply with regulations dictated by Islamic sharia. afp

i think this is a very positive step taken by the government. Atleast the “Fa-raiz” and “absolute injunctions” of the shariah shud be backed by the law in the Islamic countries and for muslim specially.

Re: Kuwaiti MPs call to enforce hijab

Kuwait is close to me heart coz I spent 15 years there. Interesting news story but there will be a lot of opposition. I do not think so it will be easy for them if they go ahead with this.

And you have the nerve to talk about freedom in non Islamic countries…

Re: Kuwaiti MPs call to enforce hijab

^ If countries like France can pass laws to stop you from wearing hijab why can't Muslim countries pass laws requiring women to wear them?

come on freedom does not mean u strart flouting the shariah principles. the relegion u follow, u have to abide by at least the basic principle.

there are some so called intellectuals in every society that have started criticising the principles of shariah or relegion.

look at america or western countries drink, free sex , nudity, gamabling are not permissible in the christianity and judaism but the state has allowed it. y? under the name of freedom. unfortunately the same has now started flowing towards us.

but on the other hand the same secular state does not allow woman wearing scarf and suspect the person wid beard. Even the Jesus had beard itself.

so we need to appreciate the importance of enforcing the shariah injunctions as well as the importance of "personal freedom".

Since in kuwait it is done by the MPs not by the relegious boday so we can say that the new rule has been endorsed by the public as well.

^^

Great Logic....

So any rule passed by a democratic country is good.

life is not dat simple.

but yeah it is gud . specially the legislation which is accordance wid the shariah.

when someone believes in a religion he shud also believe in what it says.
