Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
A legend, no doubt. A gentleman, not sure about that. Keep his personal life to the side he is retiring from cricket so look at things from a cricketing prospective not sure how his marriage fits into that. He never came across as a gentleman on the field and there is nothing wrong with that. He was competitive. Wasim and Waqar were'nt exactly gentlemen either, that doesnt mean they werent great bowlers. Very few people walk a fine line where they can be judged as gentleman yet very competitive. Imran Khan for me was a rarity, while being fiercly competitive people had no problem calling him a gentleman. It's all changed in the mordern day where you have to give nasty stares, walk up to the other player and swear at him to come across as aggressive and competitive.
It is very difficult to achieve what Kumble did for a spinner, a spinner with minimal turn. But with dedication and hardwork he has acheived what many could only dream of. An inspiration to young spinner around the world. I agree with Some1 with that fact that he was underused as an ODI bowler. He was mighty effective, he has more control then Bhajji, can swing a few lusty blows down the order as well. India would greatly miss the services of Anil Kumble.
