The rout began with a contentious decision by debutant Indian umpire. Jayaprakash, who ruled Afridi caught behind by wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia **when the ball appeared to have missed the bat. **
An angry Afridi, who made 41, stood his ground for a while before walking off slowly cursing under his breath.
Kumble’s next delivery rapped Ijaz Ahmed on the full and Jayaprakash, a former first-class cricketer, once again raised his finger.
We saw some of the most stupid decisions being made in Int’l cricket. In one of those, that umpire first said no before raising his finger succumbing to Kumble’s appeal. ![]()
Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
Kumble's bowling was all about accuracy and intelligence. Regardless of the match situation, he would keep going at the batsman over-after-over. When he was bowling, I don't think the batsman could afford to take it easy no matter how settled at the crease the bastman may have been. I think, in recent years, he was not given enough credit for his abilities in ODIs. I believe he was an excellent ODI bowler. Yes, there were occasions when he would be taken apart by some bastmen. But who doesn't (remember Jadeja taking Waqar to the cleaners in the WC Quarter Finals).
Even as a batsman and a fielder, Kumble gave his maximum within his limitations. All-in-all a perfect team man.

Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
...and if a man is a gentleman because he is a husband (who doesnt get linked with anyone else) and a father then i guess everyone man who is married and not had an affair and a father is just as good as him; its about how he used to be on the field i guess/ his attitude etc and not his personal family life.
It might help you to know that Kumble married a divorcee with a previous child. That is a big deal in a middle class setup he comes from.
Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
^I knew that - and it wasn't much of a problem for him (it was love at first sight i read somewhere) so i don't think middle class upper class or any class matters then.
Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
these people only respect bowlers like shoaib who take drugs o r sami who doesnt take anything not even wickets
Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
Don't get so sad, its everyones choice you cant influence peoples choices...

Look around my friend...how many successful young men(like Kumble) have you seen marrying divorcees with children. And this was Kumble's first marriage. I don't know about you, but in most Indian communities, it is not an easy thing to do socially....love at first sight or not.
Even in the US.....marrying single moms is generally not the norm for young people (esp if they have no baggage of their own).
Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
^ Guy no one forced him to - he did it on his own will, society norm or not; he fell in love with the woman and hence then decided to marry her...it was his own choice no influence so why should i consider him to be doing a favor on his wife and her children or anything like that...it is difficult to get married to a divorced woman in Pakistan as well i know but thats not the point, my point was that he fell in love with her hence married her otherwise he would have married any unmarried girl to...
Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
Plus i am not discarding what he has done so don't take it wrong...i know its hard and all but you took my previous post in a different direction.
Re: Kumble quits one-day cricket
A legend, no doubt. A gentleman, not sure about that. Keep his personal life to the side he is retiring from cricket so look at things from a cricketing prospective not sure how his marriage fits into that. He never came across as a gentleman on the field and there is nothing wrong with that. He was competitive. Wasim and Waqar were'nt exactly gentlemen either, that doesnt mean they werent great bowlers. Very few people walk a fine line where they can be judged as gentleman yet very competitive. Imran Khan for me was a rarity, while being fiercly competitive people had no problem calling him a gentleman. It's all changed in the mordern day where you have to give nasty stares, walk up to the other player and swear at him to come across as aggressive and competitive.
It is very difficult to achieve what Kumble did for a spinner, a spinner with minimal turn. But with dedication and hardwork he has acheived what many could only dream of. An inspiration to young spinner around the world. I agree with Some1 with that fact that he was underused as an ODI bowler. He was mighty effective, he has more control then Bhajji, can swing a few lusty blows down the order as well. India would greatly miss the services of Anil Kumble.
