Kodak P880 8MP

Yes, I am once again in the market for Digi cams.

The Kodak P880, is on sale at Costco for $299 after mail in rebate. Following are the specifications:

* Fast 5.8x f/2.8, 24-140mm wide-angle all glass Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon optical zoom lens featuring manual zoom and focus rings
* 8.0MP for prints up to 30" x 40"
* Hot shoe flash connector and PC flash sync for enhanced, flexible lighting control
* Capture VGA (640 x 480) video at 30 fps
* Five shooting modes (Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, Custom) and multiple scene and color modes
* High-capacity Kodak Li-Ion rechargeable digital camera battery and charger included
* 2.5" high-resolution indoor/outdoor LCD
* Compatible with Secure Digital memory cards

I want something a little more serious than just another camera off the shelf. The Steve’s Digicam didn’t say anything bad. So it seems like a good deal.

Any current users have any reviews? Anything better out there for the same price?

Re: Kodak P880 8MP

two most important things.. the sensor and the lens are both excellent on this model.. if only it had Image Stabilization.. but hey for a discounted price like $300.. it's a good deal..

personally i'd not get a digicam .. like EVER.. they've still not managed to solve the shutter lag and slow focusing issue that plagues ALL of them.. get a cheap DSLR.. the Nikon D50 is a good option or even the Pentax *ist D .. they go for cheap bundled with lenses for around $400 even!!

Re: Kodak P880 8MP

I got one, I bought it because it gives a slightly wider angle without putting extra lens on and its good price compared to some others. However it is a bit bulky and I hardly ever use it....Instead I mainly use a sony camera that is easy to put into your pocket. Unless you are a professional photographer I don't think you need it. Megapixels don't really mean anything anyway.
