Just wondering how you guys thought Kobe compared up to the great man. Personally, I don’t think he’s even in the same bracket. MJ used to lift his entire team, Kobe just doesn’t have that quality, although he is quite talented.

Kobe is a top 5 scorer definitely. I'd put him at 3rd, maybe 2nd behind only Wilt and maybe Jordan. With Jordan, he was more consistent but not as explosive as Kobe. So it's a median vs. ceiling thing. Kobe at his best is a better scorer than Jordan was, but Jordan at his average was a better scorer than Kobe is at his average.

Kobe was simply spectacular last night and he is playing out of his mind. 3 consecutive 50-point games. Incredible really. Lakers overall team defense is terrible, not cutting off penetration at all from the guards.

^^ yeh Kobe scoring 50+ games is spectacular and all but generally its not good for the team. this can only take them to a good spot entering the playoffs but not help them get far in the playoffs. the other players need to be equally involved and not merely be spectators

Man, Kobe is playing like a possessed man. The guy has become a frikkin' point machine.
Do agree that Lakers need a half-decent defense. When the opposition's got the ball, I have that sinking feeling coz 2 pints is pretty much guaranteed.

^ Lakers defence is pathetic. Kwame and Bynum don't do a good job on P&R but last night, it improved a bit.
I'm at a loss for words to explain what Kobe is doing, he's toying with people. This is just like MJ and I thought I'd never see this sorta thing again. Kobe in the post is quite deadly, he hits that little fall away real easy, and he mixed in what I like he'll catch it step back to get room and nail a 3. In that post spot rather attacking, sliding back for 3 or getting to the basket makes him unstoppable.
I expected a tired lazy effort, since Lakers were coming off the game a night before but Kobe just refuses to give in to fatigue, I mean in the 4th he got tired but still he had 44 after 3. I just love the way he attacks , if he misses a couple shots he starts driving and drawing fouls.
He should be given the MVP, I mean really Nash plays with 2 all-stars and the league's best 6th man, Dirk plays with 2 all-star caliber players in Howard and Stack plus Terry and harris.
Kobe is the league's best player and MVP.

well jordan played his entire carrier ( except last 2 with wizards ) with good players around him.. And that helped him play the way he played.
Look at kobie. As long as Shaq, Horry, Fox, Fisher were there in LA, he was as great as he is now, but was also winning the chamionships.
Now, there is no great player around him to complement his efforts. You can not expect kobie to score 60 points in every game and win it for his team.
What is given to kobie, i believe he is doing a remarkable job. on par with jordan.
I wish K.G comes to LA next year and make LA a great team once again.

But you have to admit, back when Jordan played, 40 points was really difficult, let alone 81. There was much tougher defense with many teams just emphasising on defense, defenseand more defense.

Jordan had the luxury of playing with the best defensive small forward in the history of the game. This entitled MJ to spend all his energy on the offensive end and always gaurd the worse of the gaurd or the small forward. Ko8e has better ball handling skills than Jordan ever had. But Jordan did something Ko8e never has done. Take away championships from dozens of first ballot hall of famers and left them dirt broke.
Comparing Ko8e and MJ is apples and oranges. If the Lakers best team played the Bulls best team it would come down to who would score more points between MJ and Shaq.

But you have to remember, when Kobe scores big, his Fg % isn't that great.
When Jordan crossed 50, he usually had 50%+ while Kobe had most of his fifty points-plus games with % in the late 40s.
I think Kobe is a volume shooter, not so much an efficient shooter. I mean, if he was on a top team, no way he would get to shoot so much and hence no way would he score so much.
