Interesting issue coming up. The family’s concerns are valid, I think, but how could they let their son be part of this film without understanding what it entailed!?!
Some people in Asia are stupid, they can't differentiate between tv/acting and reality.. I remember when once that Rambo dude from Guest House on PTV dies the peasent women from my village had fatiha-khwanis for him.. :D
It's a shame for the directors to have to omit a neccesary part of the film/plot and mess their movie up, maybe they should have chose a boy from another ethnicity to play his part and afterwards dub it in Dari..
I haven't read this article, but read another one on the BBC website related to this movie. They think it's going to rekindle old feuds between Hazaras and Pashtuns ... bring up old wounds and cause tension/possible retaliation attacks between the two groups when the movie comes out. It's the hazara boy who is assaulted in the movie .... it's them who are going to feel the wound the most.
I don't know if I want to watch this movie. Reading the book, I was so sad and depressed and was crying ... same thing will happen in the movie. :(
mehnaz do u think that the type of afghanisl who were out fighting and killing based on ethnicity in afghanistan read english books or watch english movies?
I think people who want to fight need any excuse to start a riot ... rumours alone will do the trick. sigh I hope I'm wrong. I'll be really surprised if the local Famous Players in Kabul screens the movie. :p
Seriously, the movie is in farsi/pashtu, not English. People will see it.
Should we excuse the parents? Do we know anything about their backgrounds? Should they be held responsible for finding out this information, or should we excuse them for being naive and ignorant of the potential exploitation of the child? Shouldn't they have been on set? The rape scene was recorded -- weren't they aware? Why is all this coming out when the film is almost ready for release?
I think they should just go ahead and show it, stuff the parents, they want to have their cake and eat it too, maybe they weren't so vocal about their disagreement at first because of the money involved (Afghans are like that greedy and nadeedeh), now when it's already they decide to complain because they know their sons already acted in it and the director can't replace him with someone else.
Maybe they should have used an Iranian boy instead, same language/looks but more liberal.
