Kitchen cabinet organizing ...

 … I am such a failue when it comes to organizing … :teary2:

how do you organize you kitchen cabinet space? like spices go in on the wall cabinet near the stove :hmmm:

pots go under the sink cabinet?:hmmm:

Help? :hinna:

I'm not much good myself...but I have my masalas in the cabinet next to the hob.My other foodstuffs is in a pull out larder.
My everyday plates in an eye level cabinet and seldom used dishes and serving platters in the bottom.roz marra ke glasses in the cupboard next to the sink.Cleaning bits and bobs/water softener under the sink.Pots and pans in a separate cupboard shelf...frying pan and tawa in the oven...what else?....cutlery in the drawers, plus I have a small pot thing/container for stirring spoons/doyys by the hob.
I think that cover everything. My posh bartan I put in my sideboard.Oh,and I have a glass fronted cupboard for posh glasses and mugs.
It sounds like I have a big kitchen, but it's not...it's really quite small,so everything has to be in it's place otherwise there is a mess.I hate putting bartan back after a party.I'll take a pic. when it's tidy :):

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing …

ooooh yes please take a pic and post it up here … from what i read so far , I have things exactly the same way as you … previously i used to have the oven filled with tawa’s etc … now i dont , coz i use the oven all the time and find it so hard to clear everytime :cb:

and yeah putting the bartan back in their places after the guests have left is my dillema too

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing ...

I need more kitchen cupboards........
My two biggest complaints:

  1. junk food closet that keeps getting messy
  2. empty plastic food containers cupboard (everyone knows that you open that door at your own risk!!!)

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing …

:omg: …Muzna, trust me , no matter how many cabinets you have , the mess just finds its way around :naraz:

I have 22 units and half of them arent even full and yet I cant organize my space

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing ...

Heres how I do it

Cupboard next to hob

Bottom shelf: Spices, most used in larger jars at the front, others in smaller jars at the back (they have to go back into the same spot each time)

Middle shelf: Dried herbs/pre-blended spices (in storage baskets), and things like chat masala etc

Top shelf: Dried pasta, cous cous etc

Cupboard next to one above:

Bottom shelf: Daals in jars - again they need to go back in the exact same place

Middle shelf: Popadums, ready made chappatties (in case of emergencies), any other bread we may buy. Refils of tea/coffee/sugar

Top Shelf: Dried fruit and nuts, semolina, vermicelli

Cupboard underneath sink:

Cleaning products (2 shelves worth as hubby and I are a bit obsessive

Cupboard next to the one above

All my pots and pans

Also have a cupboard for condiments, tinned food, pickles etc. A cupboard for all my oils, vinegars and baking goods. And a 'naughty' cupboard for crisps, nuts, chocolates, biscuits.

All crockery I store in a seperate cupboard with everyday crockery on a plate stand, and dinner sets in hampers.

The key to the way I've organised my cupboards is I use storage baskets for smaller jars and bottles, that way I can pull out the whole basket find what I want, replace and put it back. Saves sifting through jars upon jars AND things HAVE to go back into designated spaces. No ifs or buts.

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing ...

one word

IKEA.

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing ...

sorry....IKEA doesn't cut it for me.
if you check out the kitchens that they have on display they are very compact......the ones that make sense need 20' x 12' and right now my kitchen is not that big.

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing ...

i meant more along the lines of getting ideas.. u dont have to use any of their organizers.. i dont.. but i got ideas from it.. that i built on..

like all my masala bottles are in plastic baskets taht i just pull out.. instead of rummaging through millions of bottles back and forth messing up teh whole cabinet.

their plastic bag holder is great for keeping all ure shopping bags in one place neat and tidy.

etc etc and more etc.

Right now the cabinet next to the stove has all the masalas on the top shelf, I have a basket (square) with all the baking staples (baking powder, soda, vanilla, cocoa ) so I can just pull it out and use and keep back .

Then below shelf has all the pastas and other dry fruit and all....

The cabinet next to the sink has all the tupperware and it is a mess :(

The cabinet under the sink has one side with all the large mixing bowls and the other side has the cleaning supplies and the detergent.

The cabinet next to it has all daily use plates, and so on...

I actually had a work table built to keep my microwave and I had two shelves installed and that is where I keep all my baking pans and my pots and pans.

I had a towel rack installed over my stove and got S hooks to put my tawwa and my small pots and all my frying pans.

I think I am gonna head off to ikea over the weekend and try to get ideas to organize my tupperware and also something pull out so I can see what masalas I have....

Also thinking maybe I should tape a paper with all the masalas I have in my cabinets that way I know what all I have and what I need to get so I don't have 4 packets of cumin powder at one time...

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing ...

I think the pull out baskets are great, and use them all over the house. It makes it sooo much easier to find things without making a huge mess.

Re: Kitchen cabinet organizing …

I have 5 kitchen cabinets, a closet, a long table and a wall-unit.

cabinet 1 is very small and located above the stove–since I can’t reach it at all :frowning: I usually store rubber gloves, stove cvers etc…stuff that I don’t need all the time. Its mostly empty.

second cabinet has all my shan masalas and stuff. Again I can’t really reach past the top shelf. :frowning:

third cabinet has bowls/cups, plates, and rare-use stuff.

the other cabinet below the sink stores all the cleaning supplies…and the cabinet next to it has the colanders, and plastic containers.

closet holds the big cooking pots, appliances (electric mixer, rice cooker, food processor) all my baking pans and the daals/rice/drinks/cooking oil etc.

Wall unit holds all the “fancy” dishes and serving dishes…the bottom two closets are filled wiht dishes that my mother left behind.

I put all my cooking “chamchay” in a cutlery cup, u know the spatulas, tongs, etc.

I only have about 2 feet of counter space (maybe not even taht) so I cannot keep stuff out as much as I’d like :nahi:
