kismat

do u believe in “jo kismat mein likha hai wohi hona hotha hai…”?

is this a culturally/religious thing.. or what?

Re: kismat

Kismet isn't cultural but the concept of kismet is over-used in lazy cultures where people like to sit on their behinds and blame it all on kismet.

Re: kismat

Kismat is, the choices given to you.

Talent is, how well you choose between and handle those choices.

Re: kismat

I do believe in kismat, but not without utilizing your talents/energies in order to get hte best possible outcomes.

2 examples:

  1. one rishta comes. family is so thrilled that they quickly accept, no research nothing. wedding happens, family finds out the rishta is gay or mentally ill or there's an ex somewhere and a married life w/ that person is just not possbile--basically any reason that they could have found out with just a little bit of asking around/looking. Results in divorce.

  2. rishta comes. both get to know each other, family does all their background checks, istikhara, all that. shadi ho jati hai, and somewhere down the line, it ends in divorce. For whatever reason.

example 1 is not making use of your resources to check on that person, ignoring your instincts, etc.
example 2 is kismat..in that u did everything u possibly could but still came to a negative outcome.

Re: kismat

interesting sara... i like the way u described the two scenarios..

Re: kismat

marriage/rishta..its the 1st/thing that comes to mind to use as an example :hehe:

Re: kismat

Good job at explaining that Sara!

*Kismat: * Being born into a poor family, having abusive parents, getting no/little education as a child, physical/mental deformities, not-at-fault accidents etc OR the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of it all.

Kismat does place sort of a limit on how much you can achieve. Someone with a weak body and bone structure can, through hard word and dedication, become a good athlete. However, someone with a naturally muscular physique could become an Olympic gold medalist with the same dedication and hard work.

Re: kismat

Qismat is true. Trust it is written. My personal experience says you try try and try for something for years and don't achieve it. And when Allah allows, you don't even need to work that hard. It comes itself.

Re: kismat

kismaat dil ko samjanay aur apny nakamiyun ko justify kernay ka tariqqa hai

Re: kismat

I remember this thread from long ago discussing the same topic.

http://www.paklinks.com/gs/religion-scripture/243928-kismat-entrapment.html

It has long and boring replies but if you skim through it you will get alot of pointers to set you off in the right directions.

Re: kismat

I believe that to a certain extent. There is a hadith that dua can change destiny/kismat. And major events in your life such as birth/death are predestined. And while some things are predestined, you also have free will. Let's say that you are in a major financial crisis and you suddenly run into an old childhood friend who takes you to his mansion. You're in awe of the wealth that he's accumulated and the luxury that he is living in. He tells you that he made it big by selling illegal substances. And he offers you a job. You get scared. While on one hand you desperately need the money for yor family....you are also scared of getting caught and indulging in activities that are not only criminal but go against your moral values and belief system. It was in your kismat to run into this friend. It was in your kismat to see his wealth. But it's your **free will **to decide whether you accept his criminal offer or refuse it.

The Prophet SAWS advised his companions to make dua and put their trust in Allah.....BUT he advised them to also take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well being. The total amount of wealth you are to make in your life might be destined by Allah.....but if you're just going to sit on your butt and wait for the money to come to you.....instead of getting a job......then you're not going to get anywhere. And as Allah says in the Quran that He will not change the condition of a person unless he changes himself.

So, while there is a degree of predestination...we also have free will....and we also have tools with which to help avert destiny to an extent such as dua and common sense/precaution.

Re: kismat

^ thanks for that redvelvet) makes a lot of sense

Re: kismat

I think Allah swt gives us full control over our kismat but tends to help us along by deciding our fate on certain things.
