Kings or Manchester?

Hi,

I have offers from both of these institution for 09/2006 entry (conditional offers, but insha-allah I will meet those), and cannot split them.

Which is better?

Man has the + in money terms, and is 100% coursework + dissertation for its MA. Kings has a 25-30% examination weightting.

I have until April 18th to decide.

I ask which is better regarded internationally, and esp. in the United States as that is where I hope to end up within the next few years.

Thanks,

Kings in London or Cambridge?

Re: Kings or Manchester?

London....

www.kcl.ac.uk

Re: Kings or Manchester?

as a London graduate I have a preference for Kings... regarded more highly in my eyes and my acquaintances. plus it is ranked higher than Manchester (albeit by a small margin)....

In terms of saving money...yes london is dear. u will save money in Manchester but not a huge amount (have a sit down and work out exactly how much can u save. if it is substantial then perhaps that is ur answer).

Re: Kings or Manchester?

You'll have all those desi food places situated close to the uni in manchester ;) (wilmslow road).

Re: Kings or Manchester?

Cant I get desi food in London? :p

Re: Kings or Manchester?

It depends how far you want to travel, I know you can get desi food from places like Upton Park (east london), Upper Tooting, Southall, not sure about any other places as these are the only desi areas i’ve been to in london.

So have you come to a decision?

Re: Kings or Manchester?

No, I am still undecided. I know that one of my very good friends is very likely to opt for Manchester, so theres always that.

I feel KCL is a better uni, but the cost factor, the marketability...

I was hoping you dudes (and dudets) would help me reach one. :)

Re: Kings or Manchester?

I would suggest you choose Manchester due to the cost factors you would need to consider for kings. It's much cheaper up north.

I was thinking of doing a masters in Internet Applications Development, but later changed my mind and took a year out to build up some experience. But going for a PGCE insha allah in sept.

are you paying for your masters? I tried to get some funding...but failed :(

Re: Kings or Manchester?

Funding is my issue too. I had my place for 09/05, but had to defer it cos I'm pov. I'll have to work/save/borrow I guess to finance it.

If I dont pay for it, who else will?

Re: Kings or Manchester?

King's is much more highly respected than Manchester... go to King's it will be worth the extra money. If you are at King's you have access to a lot of the other colleges of the University of London to... both socially and academically.
