'Kill cricket, create terrorists,' warns Younis

He is painting a very bleak picture if international cricket does not return to Pakistan. Makes me wonder how come terrorists were not coming out of South Africa during aparthied era …

Cricinfo - ‘Kill cricket, create terrorists,’ warns Younis

Younis Khan has appealed to cricket’s administrators to save the game in Pakistan, or risk pushing future generations into the clutches of terrorists. The Pakistan captain fears that an extended boycott by touring teams could lead to a dramatic decline in interest and participation in cricket among the nation’s youth. That, in turn, could invite corrupting influences to fill the void that might otherwise have been occupied by sport, Younis argued.

When I was a boy, I loved watching Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram playing against great teams from overseas. It is because of them - seeing them play - that I also played the game. But what if no one comes to Pakistan? How will the youngsters know about the game? What will they do?

Re: 'Kill cricket, create terrorists,' warns Younis

He has a point.

Take away nation's pride in any field, what would left is a boundry surrounding an area of land. Not a country. This is a very big plan to fail our country.

Some of the things we could be proud of.....
AQ Khan - in the mud
Army - bearing ISI stigma, not liked by majority after 8 years of dictator
Cricket - well you know where we stand
Religous ideology - totally f'ked up - hijacked by terrorists
Leadership - stinky Zardari is Prez, corrupt Nawaz is most popular, Altaf mafia honeymooning
Enemy - almost everyone out there and inside too, people like to watch Chak De India on cable than go out to see an Air show or monument on national holiday.

This is a load of emotional BS devoid of logic.

It is not as if Pakistan will stop playing cricket. They will still play international cricket but at neutral venues. Pakistanis can continue to watch their “heroes” on TV just like they are doing today (they have not exactly been thronging the stadium for Test Matches or ODIs anyways).

Pakistan should stop blackmailing the rest of the world with :
— Give us billions in aid or there will be more terrorists in our country who can kill you.
— Please play cricket with us or there will be more terrorists in our country who can kill you.
— Don’t sideline us or there will be more terrorists in our country who can kill you.

Musharaff survived in power for so many years with a similar blackmail :
— If you topple me, there will be more terrorists in our country who can kill you.

Pakistani Govt needs to get off it’s fat arse and go after the terrorists ruthlessly rather than blackmail the outside world to bail them out everytime.

^^

I could not agree more

You can keep your brain fever for some other time. You are Indian and this is time for India to celebrate each and every failure of Pakistan. These fundamentalists, ISI's Jihadi agenda are the gifts of the super power once naive people of Pakistan thought was our friend. Its nobody's friend but of its own. This is the grand plan to disintegrate Pakistan which is in progress for last 30 years. Pakistani people have nothing to do with all this. But don't worry, today Pakistan is on the target, this super power will not be your friend forever either. Next will definetely be you, a battleground for interests of US and China. World will see, the stage is almost ready, they are just finishing the job with Pakistan and will take care of you as well.

SA apartheid era was different, they didn’t have war going on in their neighborhood, that was a different time. Just like British colonial occupation of India didn’t produce terrorists. You can’t compare two different regions/culture/times. Taliba/AlQaida are on their toes to continuously recruit youth to fight their war/agenda.

I don’t think Younis Khan is right. I grew up watching cricket on TV and playing on streets. Foreign teams not coming to Pakistan is dangerous for PCB revenue wise, which may result in not able to sponsor local games which in turn will discourage youth from getting involved in the game. Cricket will then become a pastime like kite-flying.

But to say that if youth doesn’t play cricket they will become terrorist is wrong. There is more than “poor/jobless will fall for Taliban/AlQaida propaganda”. It requires education of the masses, what is wrong/right, not just education for profession but also education of “civilization” that makes us “human being” with morals.

Re: 'Kill cricket, create terrorists,' warns Younis

Some1...there is ur answer...now even a country like BD is hesitent to host Pakistan.

Younus does have a valid point...but I feel until we dont get rid of PML-N and PPP...there will never be stability in Pakistan...and you cant blame other countries for refusing to tour Pakistan in the current scenario.

Whatever you people may say about Musharraf...the guy was a million times better than the idiots we have running the country now. And some1...no he wasnt blackmailing people that if you remove him there will be more terrorists. The Sri Lankan incident unfortunetly is a perfect example of how incompetent and pathetic the current set up is.

Nasim Ashraf also knew what he was doing. I was in Lahore at the time Zim was visiting Pakistan and believe me...even Zim was given 3 times more security than what the SL team had before the shoot-out.

There was many things out of his control...like the involvement of RAW in destablizing Pakistan...and yes I know...ISI is no angel either..they have an agenda of their own as well...especially when dushbags like Hamid Gul were running the ISI.

Re: 'Kill cricket, create terrorists,' warns Younis

Younis is the man that can get Pakistan Cricket back on its feet. But younis alone cannot do this, it will take a collective effort. Belive me I always told people I dont want forign teams to come to Pakistan because our senior secuirty officials' priority lies somewhere else, not in keeping Pakistan safe. Its just a shame.

I think BD's decision has more to do with the situation in the country (Bangladesh) than with the Pakistani team.

The situation in many parts of BD is very fluid following the armed mutiny....and I have a feeling that the BD Govt felt that the arrival of the Pakistani team would put more burden on them in terms of providing security.

Re: 'Kill cricket, create terrorists,' warns Younis

*^^ yeah ....... i guess thts the case

Re: 'Kill cricket, create terrorists,' warns Younis

^ I doubt it. BD's internal problem is not that serious that it would affect a cricket series. It might be a part of it...but this 'postponement' has more to do with the Sri Lankan incident. BD doesnt wanna take any chances since even cricketers are becoming targets for these terrorist sicko's.

This just about sums up the whole situation.

"Killing Cricket in Pakistan" will not create an increase of Terrorism in Pakistan.

Yes, my corresponding Ordinary Pakistani will no doubt suffer but he-she is not going to join a Terrorist Unit due to Lack of Cricket.

I think the Term "Killing Cricket in Pakistan" is going Over The Top as well Overdramatic as no amount of Restrictions-Terrorism is going to do that.

Cricket will flourish in Pakistan despite the Terrorism - have no fear. The net effect of Terrorism in Pakistan will be lack of Earnings by the PCB. The Paksitani Players will still make "Loadsa Money" in UK County, Australian "Sheffield"(?) and the IPL-ICL.

Re: 'Kill cricket, create terrorists,' warns Younis

^ translation please! Thank you.

The lack of international cricket in Pakistan will effect the ground conditions .......... eventually there wont be good pitches prepared ....... tht will lead to poor domestic cricket........ n finally ......... no international player ......
