Kids these days and their parents!!

Does a 2 year old really need pepsi/cola, any fizzy drinks…no. Why do i see so many parents giving it to their kids, and then when they dont want to give it, the kid will cry his/her heard off, cause major havoc and then in the end get what they want. so many sweets, drinks, junk is being given just to shut them up. I dont understand why parents give them in the first place, just say no from day one. no one under 5 or 6 even needs to touch the stuff.

what got on my nerves yday, my cousin is very strict about sleeping times, her kids must be in bed at 8pm, no later, otherwise they wont wake up on time etc etc, ok fair enough. however the rest of her upbringing is not as disiplined. the 2yr old pushes, kicks, screams if he doesnt get soft drinks/any junk she happily gives him ice cream 4 times a day just to shut him up…and then if i dare make a comment on just telling him off STRICTYL and not giving in to his tears, and a light smack on the bottom would be good, i get the oh wait til u have kids lecuctre and you cant slap kids these days, its called assault…oh please, what 2 yr old knows that.

Does anyone here give soft drinks to their kids, or give in to their demands?

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

Too much ‘laad’ ..and these very same kids will grow up to be thugs and gangsters ..and parents come to the maulvi sahbs my father is imam and asking maulvi sahb to write taweez and what not for the kids cos they dont listen to them or dont give a care in the world to parents..

so yeh your right .. upbringing is very important in not just Islamic society but generally .. if the upbringing with discipline is controlled .ofcorse you cant go all taliban on the kids then you ll have respectful, decent and obedient children.

oh yeah .. on drinks etc esp sweets and junk .. well thas a loada Junk* .. and its parents faults ..why cos health is everything .. i seen kids when they come to masjid .. as little as 5.. they have fillings and their teeth are just corroding away cos of sweets and drinks .. and what you get in return is trips to the dentist every other week and unhealthy kids ..so am all for being slight strict on kids when it comes to health esp on fizzy and sweets and not to mention chocolates ..and worse thing is that cos they are kids .. these sweets etc are stuck in their mouth / teeth and kids age 1 2 cant brush on their own .. and parents those who are lazy enough to get em quiet by giving em sweets ..i doubt brush their kids teeth afterwards .. which results in fillings and regular trips to the dentist ..i mean if they cared to brush the teeth of a 1 yr old . you d rather not give him/her chocolates :smack: ..

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

:hehe:

Yaar i think this trends sick. Gone are the days when our elders used to :smilestar: us if we so much as looked at pang.

These days i’m sorry to say many of the elders who should be responible for safeguarding the kids are either too lazy or in the worst cases elicit in the evil activity.

I even know this one old man who must be about 82 or something who deals drugs to kids… back home he would be locked up.

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

if soft drink is that bad, you should not drink it yourself too. I find it double standard that you
are drinking soft-drink and telling kids "no its not good". If you do this, your kids will never cry for soft-drinks.

Kids get into what they see their parents do. There is a simple rule. If you dont want your kids do something, dont do it yourself.

Yeah ..very .. and from your post .. it also brings to the issue that .. kids CANT be diciplined ..when their elders are doing the evil themselves … I have so many examples of this .. like one is that .. this father comes to the mosque and tells ma father that teach my kids how to read namaz and tell them that its important to pray etc etc .. so yeh my dad does ..so after that on regular basis .. these kids dad comes and parks up outside ..and inside is namaz time .. and sadly the kids are watching that their dad is parked out side waiting for kids to finish and go home ..

now moral of this is that … you cant tell your kids to something which your not doing yuorself . you have to be the role model for them

Yup.

haha true say, when going gets tough, they send them to masjid / madrassa.. like it's magic LOL

true say, set an example..! thats the key.

I agree with above !

When I am drinking water my daughter wants to drink water too , when I am having juice she wants to have juice and a few days back I was having cold/soft drink and she wanted to have it too. She just wants to drink or eat whatever I am drinking or eating. If I don't want her to have soft drinks then I should better not have it in front of her.

At this age kids are continuously learning new things and they learn most from their environment & from people around them.

It IS magic for them ..cos they get to watch a 3 hour bolly film which they took on the way back after dropping the kids off at masjid ...at home in peace :D

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

Agreed :k:

Again your words are worth thier wieght in gold. :aliyish:

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

Decdent 6chora.... I beg to differ, its very easy to keep kids away from fizzy drinks even if you drink them yourself. I drink fuzzy drinks now and then, my 4 years old doesn't.... no candy (except maybe once a month), no fizzy drinks at all, no chips, ice cream on special occasions mainly, or once in 2 weeks.

A smack on the bottom is very easy to administer (I haven't felt the need to do that yet although) and spanking is totally allowed as far as I know in the US.

The parents are just being lenient and silly, its not that tough to discipline kids.

I prefer being hard on myself (by avoiding drinks ) than being hard on my kids :)

but i agree, thats one rout to take too..

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

^ That is commendable, and proves you're a good dad my friend.

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

Well, these days kids might be tough to handle (that's what I have been told by the parents of spoiled kids) I believe kids are always the same. My father uses to tell me that we were the most disciplined kids because we had strict parents but these days parents just don't want to restrict their kids as they believe that 'too much restrictions can spoil the kid'. As a result I mostly come across the kids who are extremely 'destructive' sort of creatures :s They don;t take even a second to destroy or make loss, if you don't warn them then they won't stop but I am also told not to even scold them. I don't agree with such statement that tell to be extra lenient to kids 'these days'.

Though you should also have to change some of your habits in order to set examples for the kids like if you are addicted to star plus dramas then you should quit this habit but I've seen such parents who do watch such stuff but don't want their kids to watch this. Kids also have questions in their minds so we shouldn't create chance for them to get into any confusion.

Bottom line is that too much laad pyar can be harmful for the children as well as for the other people around.

Thats my plan to quit drinking soda. :)

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

This little one loves fizzy drinks and I love her facial expressions when she sups. So i fill her bottle with sprite..LOL.

^Ummm, sorry to burst your happy bubble but fizzy drinks have caffeine besides God knows what other chemicals… not good for little ones with a developing brain and body.

I actually saw this couple in a restaurant giving their infant (she must be 8 or 9 months old) sips of pepsi, then giggling at her expression. I wanted to go smack them :emmy:

Re: Kids these days and their parents!!

^ for now go and smack jalpari90 :)
