I went through a horrible time when my 2yo was drinking 2 bottles each night. She would wake up at regular intervals and ask for milk until her diaper would leak in the morning. Btw I started using older kids pull up bedtime diapers but even that wasn’t enough to stop the leaking given the amount of milk she consumed. I was frustrated and angry.
Then my sil pointed out that apart from the comfort factor she might be hungry during the night. So I started to feed her solid food right before she hit the bed. She stopped waking up through the night and only took one bottle before snoozing off.
Now at almost 3 she’s off the night bottle completely and takes it during the day. Still doesn’t like the sipping cup.
My 10mo on the other hand doesn’t like bottle. I still nurse her exclusively but occasionally give her kehwa or cereal through sipping cup which she loves.
So it varies in children. For older toddlers, make sure they are not going to bed hungry.
Re: kids still on bottle
OK definitely will try that from.today.
Thank u everyone
Re: kids still on bottle
Yes, you will. My nephew still drank milk from a bottle at age 7. My cousin (his mom) said she tried to wean him off it so many times but he just would not drink milk in a glass. He would drink everything else in a glass…just not milk. For him, milk was only good in a bottle. She stopped giving him milk in a bottle and he ended up NOT drinking milk for 3 months so she gave in and went back to the bottle.
Some kids do remain very attached to the bottle.
Re: kids still on bottle
I also feed my kids something just before bed. My now 4 year old only stopped waking up for a bottle a few months ago, my one year old stopped getting up when he was 10months old. All kids are different, but make sure they are well fed.
Re: kids still on bottle
Guys, there are other sources of nutrition than milk! Not drinking a cup of milk daily is not going to harm your kid’s health. You can offer cheese, smoothies, yogurt or even milk through their cereal plus a whole bunch of other foods.
Re: kids still on bottle
Nadz, after brushing teeth give them bottle with water. It will solve the "sucking on air " problem and cavity problem.
Re: kids still on bottle
my daughter 3.5 still takes bottle if I don’t give her bottle she don’t drink milk, she use regular glass for water but bottle for milk, honestly I am not worried I know she will eventually leave. though I keep telling her its not good I show her other kids drinking in glass but not forcing or being strict on this. one of my friend stopped giving bottle n her son refused milk at all.
This exactly!! Milk is not the only or best source of nutrition/calcium! At 3-4-5 years of age it shouldn’t matter whether they drink milk or not as long as the diet is varied and nutritious otherwise.
Re: kids still on bottle
Yes please stop bottle a soon as you can.. I planned to go it around 18 months but we didn’t do it until 22 months .. He now drinks milk in sippy cup but definitely not as much as he used to so I include yogurt, cheese etc Jin his diet.
Nads.. Try giving her dinner just before bedtime .. We used to eat dinner around 6 but I started to delay my son"a dinner to 7 followed by milk in a sippy cup around 7:30 and in bed by 8:00.. That’s how he remained full entire night. And by dinner I mean proper roti/Salan/ rice!!!
