What’s he got in the way of teeth? You may be able to give him less soft stuff. By 1 year, I think they can be eating most fruits and veg cut up; my kid loves blueberries. For breakfast you could try baby museli with some cut up fresh fruit in it. I would try varying the snacks too… pretty much whatever you can think of that is safe for baby - small chunks of cheese he can pick up, raisins (make sure he is okay with chewing them first though), veg sticks.
What about what you guys eat? Can he not eat the same for his dinner? The kid loves paratha so if he’s not keen on what we are eating I make him one, which can be stuffed and then then served in little pieces which he can pick up himself. He’s a lot fussier since he reached the ‘I want to feed myself’ stage and if he doesn’t like the feel of the food when he touches it, he won’t try it.
He is 1 as of yesterday and has 7 teeth now Mashallah.
I have tried giving him food that we eat...he doesn't like it. I started off with our home cooking so I didn't have to make separate meals but it ends up all over the floor and not in his mouth.
I will try making paratha actually...not tried that one too much yet as we don't eat a lot of roti or bread in our house.
my son is also very picky. Weekday breakfast is a egg sandwich (homemade with just cheese, egg and some buttered buns.) Weekend breakfast is paratha's with egg.
Have you tried to give him yakhni pulao. i gave that to my son a lot when he was younger. i would add veggies to it as well.
Now that he is at school (pre-k) i make 4-5 different types of burger patties (turkey, chicken, beef, beef with a lot of veggies etc.) and give him a burger on days i know he won't eat the school foo (we can we the menu online.) I also have a lot of veggies mixed into the meat so he gets his veggies too.
my son loves daals and keema...so i make each once a week. and keema always has a vegetable in it (keema with gobi, keema aloo, keema with carrots etc...) Same with the daals.
For snacks, you can give berries, other fruits, cheese sticks, yogurt etc.
7 teeth mashAllah he should have no problem getting his teeth into stuff. Do try giving him carrot sticks or cucumber sticks to munch on if you are not already. He may not digest a lot of it but it will help him with biting into food and chewing, in my experience anyway. I agree with KS09 as my little guy loves anything long and stringy too.
We also don't eat roti/naan very much but I end up making a little paratha just for him on most days since I know he will eat it if nothing else.
It's just lots of trial and error and as he's getting older you may find he stops eating something he really liked previously and you end up stop giving it for a while. My guy has totally gone off eggs in any shape or form as the texture really bothers him... and he used to love scrambled egg, omelette, quiche. What I have found is that some foods he prefers if they are like batons and he can hold a large piece and bite at it (e.g. toast) and other things he prefers to be in cut up in tiny pieces which he gingerly picks up.
Actually the problem may be teething...I found tooth # 8 last night.
I just don't see the point of all these teeth if he's not using them?
So I give him apple slices to munch on and he likes those...last night he had oranges for the first time and his face was hilarious since they were slightly tart. LOL.
I tried making pasta with a simple butter sauce...he had 3 bites and that was it last night. The rest was on the floor...so much work for 3 bites.
He also liked scrambled eggs at one point and I'd even mix in some avocado with it but he stopped taking that as well.
I am just going to keep trying different things until we hit pay dirt...this is maddening though.
