Kids in Fancy Restaurants...

How do you feel about your children or others’ children in posh restaurants where there is more of an adult atmosphere…a place like Henri or Alinea in Chicago:

Would you take your kids there?

Would you mind if someone else brought their children or if they were a bit loud?

How would you react?

Re: Kids in Fancy Restaurants…

We took our daughter to the Highlawn Pavilion (very upscaled restaurant in NJ). And no one seemed to mind her being there. She was the only child in the restaurant which was clearly for adults (no kids menu boo!). As long as the kids arent too loud or cranky, I think it’s fine  She was fine and behaved herself during dinner. Other diners around us even tried playing with her.

We always take are kids to high end restaurants and they are fine. Even when they were small they behaved well!
Once we went with some friends and their kids were screaming at the top of their voice, finally the manager came and said can you please make your kids stop screaming coz the rest of the ppl are getting disturbed embarrased
The mother instead of being embarrassed told the manager how do you expect me to tell a 2 year old to stop screaming! double embarrassed super mad

Re: Kids in Fancy Restaurants…

i would rather go to a restaurant where kids are welcomed. isii liye to maiN ne abhii tak shaadii nahiiN kii [yaa huii nahiiN :p] taa k mujhe in mushkilaat se do chaar na honaa paRe.

We usually go to places that are kid friendly because it is not fun for other adults around especially in the fancier restaurants to be interuppted by a wailing kid nor is it fun for the parent to be wither shushed by others or make excuses. My girls are loud and excited and they like chatting and giggling without getting the stink eye so for me personally just to let everyone have some sake of peace, I avoid the super fancy restaurants.

Hmm…it depends. Alinea/L2O/Everest are places that i think are a little too upscale to have kids there (under 6 yrs old). Places like Shaws or Joe’s have a different atmosphere even though they are also upscale. They have a more family friendly vibe…loud and cheerful. I’ve been to Alinea, L2O and Everest and found the people there were all business people or couples. I went to one with my cousin and husband and they were laughing and joking and we got a couple of stares from the diners lol.

Re: Kids in Fancy Restaurants…

I dont remember last time when we went to a restaurant (I mean if my wife and I are together) without our kids, and we have been to many high end restaurants, although honestly we dont eat out that often.
