Kids: Fact and Fiction

How do you make sure your kids know the difference between fact and fiction?

Let’s use the example of the harry potter movies/books… There was an incident where a kid jumped off from the top of the stairs thinking he can fly like harry potter… he died i think? … And there have been similar incidents where kids have put themselves in dangerous situations all because of a video game or a movie, a book etc etc…

As a parent, do you actually sit down with your child and tell him/her that listen beta this is not real, this doesn’t happen, don’t try this… ???

Re: Kids: Fact and Fiction

depends, BBQ. Things like flying and jumping off a roof, sure. Things like beleiving in santa or tooth fairy...bring some magic to childhood for mine. They're old enough now to know...but they keep it going because its fun. I like to keep the magic alive as long as possible.

My eldest was SO cute, his class is studying different countries and cultures, they just finished Japan and to celebrate, the class went on a trip to a japanese steakhouse. They got a hibachi meal, chopstick lessons, tour of gardens and koi pond. Number one son was SOOOOO excited that he "went to JAPAN!!!!" with his class lol!! I didnt have the heart to correct him :)
